First of all, nobody is being tortured in Iraq. I worked in a detention facility in Iraq before and after the Abu Ghraib thing blew up. Aside from that specific incidence, I haven't ever heard of any other abuses. And besides, the people in Abu Ghraib aren't innocent. Do you really care that a killer or rapist was semi-sexually abused while in prison? Did you care when Dahmer was killed in prison?

When the detainees were interrogated, they would be deprived of sleep. That's not torture by any means. They would be put in a room that was all white with bright lights, then in a room all black with no light. That's not torture. Maybe a tape of a phone ringing or a rabbit screaming would be played.

And you have to remember, innocent people aren't interrogated. The system doesn't work that way. Before an interogation happens, there has to be evidence and reason. Also, they have to be important enough to warrant that kind of time being spent. Important people to the enemy are not innocents.

Torture has been shown to be ineffective throughout history. I am not a liberal by any means but, morally and ethically it is just wrong. It has shown to only build more hatred among the people being tortured and is not effective because almost any information you could get out of someone would be outdated anyway by the time they told you. This people are not stupid (just brainwashed) and even if the person caught knew information about some terrorist plan their buddies would change the plans as soon as they found out. Then they would recruit more people to there cause because torturing there people justifies there claims that we are the evil ones. If you want to get information, do it like the spies used to do. Befriend them and get them to let down there guard. Most people love to talk and if you get them to trust you, they will tell you a lot more useful information then torturing them ever would.

The British tortured the Indians. And that breeded more resentment against the British. Torture did not bring victory for the Birtish. And all the experts I hear say that the current state we are in in Iraq, is because of torture and rape committed against the population.

Did you ever like the bully in your school when you were growing up?

Depends on what your calling torture. I think closing down the all you can eat buffet at Guantanamo and making things unpleasant enough to get suspects to talk is absolutely necessary for victory. But that's just common sense.

It's not vital for us to achieve victory in Iraq if we were to use the full might of the American military, but since we want to try and win this with a small amount of troops then I think yes it is vital, it's been used through out history for warfare.

False, torture just lowers us to the their level making us no better. Furthermore people will just say what you want them to say whether it is true or not to get you to stop torturing them.

Besides that, we do not need victory over a nation that did not attack us or our allies.

I would tell you that my mother is purple if you pinched my toe hard enough. So much for torture being an effective tool.
