Catholic Confessions About Sunday

CONFESSION NUMBER 1: The Catholic Church admits it changed God's Sabbath from Saturday to Sunday.

"Q. Which is the Sabbath Day?

"A. Saturday is the Sabbath day.

"Q. Why do we observe Sunday instead of Saturday?

"A. We observe Sunday instead of Saturday because the Catholic Church transferred the solemnity from Saturday to Sunday." Peter Guierman, The Convert's Catechism of Catholic Doctrine (1957 ed.), p. 50. Copyright 1930 by B. Herder Book Co., St. Louis.

"The Catholic Church for over one thousand years before the existence of a Protestant, by virtue of her Divine mission, changed the day [of worship] from Saturday to Sunday. ... The Christian Sabbath is therefore to this day the acknowledged offspring of the Catholic Church, as Spouse of the Holy Ghost, without a word of remonstrance from the Protestant world." Editorial, The Catholic Mirror (Baltimore), September 23, 1893.

Yes, The Sabbath is Saturday and chould be observed by those who love God.

Revelation 14 says that 3 messages go out to the world right before the end comes. The first message says worship the creator and then it quotes the 4th commandment.

God is calling his people to return to the commanments and worship Him as He has described. He wants His people to leave man made traditions and come back to His word.

"Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy" Exodus 20:8
The Sabbath is a Holy day of assembly and worship Leviticus23

I do not want to offend others but I must respectfully dis agree with some of the above comments

The Sabbath was not only for the Jews it was given to Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden. Genesis 2:1-3

If they are jews then we all are Jews and should keep the Sabbath.

Christians are told to keep the Sabbath in the 10 commandments. Exodus 20:8

If you love me keep my commandments

"He that saith, 'I know him' and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him." I John2:4

Christians are supposed to follow Christ and Jesus kept the Sabbath.

Jesus said that he did not come to end the law in Matt 5-18 and Luke

Romans 10 says that Christ is the end of the law but does that mean we can murder people, or lie or steal or commit adultery or worship other gods or idols? Then why is the only command that starts with Remember the one most people forget?

The Sabbath was created for man is true. Why? it was created perfect in the garden of Eden before sin. It was a time for man to commune with God. Relationships grow with quality time. Friends who don't spend time together don't grow closer and that is why God created the Sabbath so man could grow closer to Him.

Colossians 2:16-17
is talking about ceremonial Sabbath days like Passover and the Day of Atonement. These are different from the 7th day Sabbath vs 17 says what the difference is

"Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ."
The Passover symbolizes Jesus sacrifice, The Day of Atonement also symbolizes Jesus sacrifice and our salvation, but the 7th day Sabbath points back to creation. "Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy (Why?) Because in 6 days God created the Heavens and the earth and all that in them is."

What do ministers of the different Faiths say?

Presbyterian:
“Until, therefore, it can be shown that the whole moral law has been repealed, the Sabbath will stand… The teaching of Christ confirms the perpetuity of the Sabbath” - T.C. Blake D.D. Theology Condensed

Catholic:
“You may read the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, and you will not find a single line authorizing the sanctification of Sunday. The Scriptures enforce the religious observance of Saturday, a day we never sanctify.” - James Cardinal Gibbons

Catholic:
“Perhaps the boldest thing, the most revolutionary change the Church ever did happened in the first century(actually 200yrs later). The holy day, the Sabbath , was changed from Saturday to Sunday… not from any directions noted in the Scriptures, but from the Church’s sense of its own power… People who think that the Scriptures should be the sole authority should logically become Seventh Day Adventists, and keep Saturday holy.” –Saint Catherine Catholic Church Sentinel, May 21. 1995

Baptists:
“There was and is a commandment to keep holy the Sabbath day, but that Sabbath was not Sunday. … It will be said, however, and with some show of triumph, that the Sabbath was transferred from the seventh to the first day of the week… Where can the record of such a transaction be found? Not in the New Testament- absolutely not. There is no scriptural evidence of the change of the Sabbath institution from the seventh to the first day of the week.”- Dr. Edward T. Hiscox, Baptist Manual

Pentecostal:
“Why do we worship on Sunday? Doesn’t the Bible teach us that Saturday should be the Lord’s Day?... Apparently we will have to seek the answer from some other source than the New Testament.” David A Womack, “Is Sunday the Lord’s Day?”

Lutheran:
“The observance of the Lord’s day [Sunday] is founded not on any command of God, but on the authority of the church.” – Augsburg Confession of Faith,

God Bless and Happy Sabbath

Hello, Sunday is celebrated as the Sabbath because the early church fathers of the Roman Catholic Church changed the day of celebration of the Sabbath to Sunday - The Day of the Sun. Constantine - the real first Pope, and a Roman Emperor, was more interested in uniting the Roman empire politically by uniting all the religions of the time under one unified state religion, he chose Chrisitianity as the up and coming religion of the times. Just because you have the might to do something, does not mean you have the right to do something. Sun day is the ancient pagan day named for the pagan practice of Sun Worship, based in the astrological science of the planets. As Christianity is an offshoot of Judiaism, they both started with Saturday sabbaths. There is no biblical proof of the right to change the day officially. The Catholic church claims they had the right to change it, and that most other Christian denominations still use it is proof that they were justified and right for doing so. The Protestants just kind of inherited Sunday worship. The true Sabbath is Saturday, but the main issue is do you hold the Sabbath sacred and holy which ever day you celebrate? Jesus Christ himself, told us that the Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. In the times to come the true Sabbath will be reinstated. Until that time, Do what is right in your own heart, and allow others to do the same, so that it is not sin unto you. Reg

Jesus put an end to the law when he was nailed to the torture stake. Sabbath keeping was a part of that law.
Romans 10:4
Galatians3:24
‘The sabbath came into existence for the sake of man, and not man for the sake of the sabbath; hence the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath.’”

Jesus knew that Jehovah had instituted the Sabbath as a sign between God and Israel, and that it was meant to bring them relief from their labors. Jesus also was aware that his own death would provide the basis for setting aside the Mosaic Law as having found its fulfillment in him. He appreciated that the Law, with its sabbath requirement, provided “a shadow of the good things to come.” (Heb. 10:1; Col. 2:16, 17) In connection with those “good things” there is a “sabbath” of which he is to be Lord.

As Lord of lords, Christ will rule all the earth for a thousand years. (Rev. 19:16; 20:6; Ps. 2:6-8) While on earth, Jesus mercifully performed some of his most amazing works of healing on the Sabbath, thus demonstrating the kind of relief that he will bring to people out of all nations during his Millennial Reign. (Luke 13:10-13; John 5:5-9; 9:1-14) Those who appreciate the real meaning of the Sabbath will have opportunity also to benefit from that “sabbath” rest.

The commandment is keep the rest and keep the sabbath holy.
So, from friday night to sat night we are to rest and have a day for God. We can worship together on Sundays if we feel like it.

The Sabbath has always started on Friday at sundown, and ran to Saturday at sundown. Sunday is the Lord's day because of the resurrection. Paul instructed us to pray without ceasing. He said all day are alike and we should worship God in everyone of them. The Sabbath in ancient times was never a day or worship but a day of complete rest. It was expected that God be glorified in all they did in all we do today... Jim

Amen Sister.

It’s on of the Ten Commandments, carved in stone.

Who gave us humans the right to decide that God’s day of rest doesn’t suit us we can change the date.

Yes we must worship Him everyday.
But we’re talking about a day of rest.
We can’t rest everyday that would be called laziness.

Actually the sabath begins at sunset Friday evening until Saturday evening at sunset.

Christians moved the say of worship to Sunday because Jesus supposedly rose from the dead Sunday morning.

Not true. The original day for Jewish people was Saturday, but not for Christians. If you think Saturday is right for the church just give us one verse that says that and it would be enough. Come on - just one verse that says Christians should hold Saturday as their Lord's day.
