No there will be no draft.
The military is having no problem getting above-average people to join up and cannot get more because we are at the maximum size allowed by Congress.
Increasing the size of the Army is a simply matter of Congress giving the Army permission to recruit more people.

Lyndon Johnson greatly increased the number of troops fighting in Vietnam. The draft had been instituted in 1940.
Nixon consistently brought down the number of troops, although he did expand the war (briefly) into Cambodia.
Please re-check your facts.
The analogy, if any, might be between Nixon and the Democrats of 2006, each of whom won on the basis of discontent with the war, although neither set forth a detailed alternate plan. In each case, the opposition proved wrong the axiom that "you can't beat something with nothing." Sort of.

well, you've got your history wrong.
"Nixon championed the elimination of the draft in his 1968 campaign against Hubert Humphrey. As promised, forced service in the military ended in 1973 under Nixon's leadership. The era of volunteer service had begun."
To answer you question. I can not forsee any time when the President would agree to double the number of troops in Iraq.

There is no need for a draft. The U.S. only has 10% of its forces in Iraq. Doubling the forces would put it to 20%. The U.S. can also recruit Iraqs which have no jobs. They should just double the size of what the U.S. wanted the Iraqi police to be.

Nixon didn't instate the draft....JOHNSON did. Nixon just inherited the mess Johnson created. And no, there's not going to be a draft. There's no reason to have one. And with how high-tech the US military is, a draft is no longer a logical idea. It would two years to teach any draftee how to do their jobs.

The only person trying to push the draft through is Democrat Charlie Wrangel - NOT the President.
The really ironic part about it is that the Democrats used the draft as a scare tactic, and now it's a member of their party trying to reinstate it.

That's fine, I think it will be a sign to other countries that we are serious about causing and wining a the war that is to come in the Middle east.
