The only thing we know for sure is he was not born in December. Scholars believe either in the spring or fall. Christmas is not Christian at all but pagan. December 25, is the birth of the unconquered sun sometimes called Saturnalia. December 25 was chosen because as someone else already pointed out pagans celebrated this date for the birth of their Gods.

I read recently that the man known as Jesus was born in the spring time but for hundreds and hundreds and hundreds, etc. of years now it has been celebrated in the winter to coincide with the pagan solstice, some pope back then made the decree, that is why Christmas in Dec.

There are a number of different ideas floating around out there...

It is thought that he was born on September 11 3 B.C.

Don't worry...it's common knowledge that Jesus wasn't born on December 25th.

Only a complete fool would state otherwise.

He was born at the time the sheperds were still living out in the fields at night with their flock. Some say spring months others say Sept/October.
December 25th is a pagan worship time that was hijacked but it still is a pagan day and mistletoe and yule logs and such still show where it's pagan roots belong.
Jesus would be offended to share a day with pagan celebrations.

Careful Biblical scholarship proves He was born during Sukkot, which spans the end of September through the beginning of October.

Here's the best article I've ever seen on this subject, that approaches this question from a PURELY Biblical and scholarly viewpoint:

No one really knows.

December 25 is the day we celebrate His birth as a way to "Christianize" an old pagan holiday celebrating the birth of the sun. It probably started when an early Christian teacher asked the pagans what they were celebrating .

"We are worshipping the birth of the sun god"

'Silly pagans, you should be celebrating the birth of the Son of God:

The assumption is the Spring of 7 BCE, other say September of 4 BCE, but with time shifts and calendar conversions, we cannot be certain of a real date

4 B.C. No one knows the exact day, but we have to celebrate it someday, so the Church picked Dec. 25 which previously was the date for a pagan feast.

I heard March 3rd, but you might want to take that with a grain of salt.

The only reason that it's December 25 was to overlap the pagan holiday of yule. Back then, the church was obsessed with eliminating paganism
