I'm considering cutting caffeine out of my diet in order to improve my morning anxiety, and possibly improve my mood. I'm at least mildly addicted to caffeine, is this worth it?

It is totally worth it. For the first week or so you maybe moody, but that's just your body reacting to the removal of caffeine. Just be strong. I cut out caffeine and it was the best thing I ever did, since I've actually had more energy, gotten better sleep at night, and have not had any mood problems in the morning (ie: don't come near me until I've had the first cup of coffee - those days are gone). Best of luck to you.

I think you have the right idea in quitting, I'm trying to do the same.

Caffein is known to increase levels of norepinephrine and epinephrine, which are central to stimulating the sympathetic nervous system. The SNS provides a natural stress reaction when we perceive danger - resulting in faster heartbeat, muscle readiness and releasing energy from fat. Stimulation of the SNS when no danger is present causes restlessness and general anxiety. Cutting out the caffein will certainly make you less prone to this stress reaction.

I wouldn't recommend doing it cold turkey - as your brain has become adapt, you should taper off gradually and give your brain time to adjust so the withdrawal doesn't effect you negatively.

Good luck.

Caffeine is not only a stimulant that can increase someone prone to anxiety, but it affects the depth and quality of your sleep without you knowing it. That many contribute to the amount of am anxiety you have. Check out the possibility of cutting down slowly to avoid headaches- try half decaf and half caf for a week.

Yes, caffeine is a central nervous system stimulant so it would be worth it to give it a go.
