between 3-10 dollars. Probably more like 5.

I think average nationwide is between 7-10, but iam pretty sure those statistics were formed from sitters in major cities.

My mom charged 3 in the 90's, i charged 4-5 as a middle schooler, and as a nanny I charge 10 per child, but nannies are not sitters and our prices are not on the same scale.
Although a good sitter will still be worth 10, although i dont see a 15 year old warrenting that price.

I'd say 5 is fair.

Wow! Yes I would try its totally worth a shot! My best friend has twins and she has always payed around 60 -80 a day for both of them. It kept getting lower, at 6 months it was 40 a child at one year 35 and a year and a half 30 but that is for an 8 hour day not a 5 hour. The woman who provided her daycare was watching her own child, the twins, and another child as well. I wouldn't try to lower it more than 10 dollars (the worst thing that can happen is her countering right? but its better than nothing!). In my opinion, yes, you are paying too much especially if you are providing food and the essentials for the day PLUS, out of those 5 hours think about how much your daughter naps? Even when I used to fill in and watch the twins for the day she always gave (or tried to, I never accepted it LOL) 60$/day total for two kids. Its really not even a matter of minimum wage in my opinion because its not like shes a certified day care center or anything and if she added another child she would obviously be making more money and I'm pretty sure she could do it without getting a day care license. Not to meantion the fact I doubt shes paying any kind of taxes on the money your paying her or even if its enough to have to pay a lot...daycare is different than a regualr job (in my opinion at least). Its her decision to add another child to try and make more money (if she is really that stressed about finances) but since shes only watching yours it seems like shes making less (I really hope that made some kind of sense!). Good luck!! =)

Ask around. It is different everywhere. I have 3 kids (ages 10, 4 and 1) and pay about $10 an hour.

I usually don't have to hire a sitter as we have family around that will do it free.

Minimum wage is 5.15 in Indiana, I live in Indianapolis. I wouldn;t charge more than $5 really. I usually got paid about 15 a day, and that was enough for me at 15.

I would say $10 per hour or $40 for an evening (max 6 hours). IMO, flat rates seem to work better!

I don't pay more than $4.00/hr; the sitter won't cook, clean, and in this case the sitter won't have to change a diaper or even wipe a butt...the sitter won't EARN more than that...
