I know the literal translation is a young horse, but does anyone know its slang meaning?

In my country we call Potra (as slang) to any young woman that looks very good (specially the body) and has a distinctive personality or lots of sex appeal.

Potra salvaje (wild filly) is referred to a strong willed or hot tempered good looking woman.

But as you say, the literal translation is a young horse, a filly for potra or colt for potro.

Hello Kristen. Potra (or potro) as you said means "colt" in Spanish. People from the North of México use the same word to refer to a young girl (potra, potrilla) or a young boy (potro, potrillo) meaning that they are young and wild. Also it is used to refer to gir that looks good and nice, and ready to "break in" (like wild horses).
Greetings!★

A 'potra' is a filly. In slang some people refer to women as potras much like you could call them foxes, kitties etc.

It is slang word in Spain.

potra = lots of luck (lucky)

You say for example:

Kristen tiene una potra. = Kristen has so much luck.

It is very much used specially when you play games.

Que potra! = How lucky!

Ags is correct, a "potra" is Spanish for a filly or (in case you aren't familiar with horses) a 'female pony.'
