I am in the Guard. Basic training is about 10 weeks about 11 1/2 weeks with reception. Depending on what school you decided you want to go to you can be gone on average about 6 months, unless you go medical and most medical schools are a year long. You do have a chance of being deployed and in that case you will be gone about 18 months total that is including training and 1 year in country.

Air National Gaurd or Army? What MOS/AFSC? Once you leave MEPS you will go to the inprocessing station, may take 3-5 days there, then you will go to basic. The Air Force is now an 8 week camp. Once you graduate you may have some lag time between AIT/Tech school. Then dependant on your school length 6 weeks to 4 months in most cases. You could be gone 6 months or so before reporting to your unit.

Gone as in where? Because if you mean boot camp and tech school then depending of which branch it is usually 3ish months for each. However you can do boot camp first then do tech school at a later time. My sister is in the Air National Gaurd and she did split training a few years ago.

no one can answer that because nobody knows. You will have basic training, then you will have schooling. then you will be sent to your Command/Guard unit.
You may do Basic and school all at once, which could be several months all together. You could do them in seperate chunks.. maybe 8 weeks for Basic then 12 weeks a few months later for school.
Then it all depends on where you are stationed, and where they are in deployment rotation. you could get there and be told that you are immediately shipping out.. anywhere from 30 days to 12 months.

Basic training is 6-10 weeks long...then you'll be stationed somewhere. If you're sent to Iraq, only God will know when you'll come home and in what condition.
Thank you for being willing to serve your country, especially during a time of war.

If you join, they should tell you at the time you do what your commitment will be. This isn't the whole truth, because they don't have enough people there (yeah right) and no one wants to join up to go over and die, when you get there, they can extend your contract indefinitely, and there is nothing you can do. My advice is to not join up.

War is old men talking and young men dying. Bush is probably going to call for more troops after Christmas. They have extended the tours of almost all the armed services, so good luck.
Just make sure your family pitches in for body armor, because the Bush is doing a shoddy job of protecting our troops.

why would you do that?
you would make yourself a pawn to the American elitist ruling class.
read a history book, the regular media outlets are controlled by your government and they control your mind and patriatism.
come on... get real... it's your life they will toy with.
find a good cause... feed the hungry, take care of widows and orphans...

You really need to look into programs like stop-loss and the inactive reserve. Once you are in the suit you are at the mercy of the needs of the service. If they need you - you stay.
