I have very dark brown hair almost blackish and I've tried dying it other colors but my hairs too dark and it won't take the dye. Is there any brand that's made for dark hair or any color that I can try? I want my hair to be just a little lighter. I have dark brown eyes and tanned skin. Thanks

Feria makes hair dye for dark hair.

What you want to do is look for hairdye for dark hair. You might have to color your hair in stages though. Try a shade a little lighter then your color right now.

Other then that, you might have to bleach out your hair to try to make your hair go any lighter. If you do that then I sugguest dying it a nice alburn color or a nice chocolately brown.

I have dyed my hair almost every color. So, trying to dye from black/dark brown is hard.

You might be able to put red on it and it should lighten.

If not go to the salon and they can do it for you. They will probably want to lighten your hair first before they do it.

I would recommend seeing a stylist. They have the best input since they are around hair all the time. Another thing you could do is just get your hair a lighter brown by 7% the most. Then ask for highlights that are 23% lighter, and maybe get 8 or 9 on each side. Depending on the thickness of your hair. Make them thin though, or you will end up with giant chunks. Then work from there, every 2-4 months dye your hair 13% lighter, and add highlights. Sure it's costly but it works. I had the same problem. I ended up going almost blonde, but I dyed it back, it just didn't suit me. Well, I hope it helps.

The problem with alot of hair dyes - meaning color only - is that they don't lift the color out of thick hair. I have a similar problem - hair dye will NOT work on me. My best advice is to call around to salons in your area and see if they offer free consultations. If you can, check with a stylist and see what they say. You may have to bleach your hair first, and that causes ALOT of damage. :( I hope you find something that works!

I also have dark brown hair, you just need to find dyes with some bleach in them, they'll be marked by a color chark on the side

Instead of coloring your whole head-how about just putting highlights in it so the change won't be such a dramatic change at once! Highlighting works better on darker hair too...that way if you don't like it you can still change it without so much processing on your hair!Good luck!P.S.Southern girls color their hair...not dye! You dye Easter eggs-you color your hair!

I would go to a salon to have your hair done. It is very tricky lightening dark hair without getting a yellow hue. It is well worth the money to have it done correctly.

Have you tried doing highlights? They break the hair up and lighten it to a degree.

Make sure you are reading the box to make sure they can be used on darker hair.

what wil work for you are those labelled 'permanent' ones.. i guess u were using temporary ones.. they dont catch on that easily... choose two or three shades lighter than ur original hair color... but wait for 2 weeks between any hair color applications..
