Islam, like Christianity, has different interpretations (or, denominations), so "Yes", they would have the same here in the US.
When speaking of American Muslims it must be remembered that 1/3 of those are African-Americans, via the Nation of Islam, which is a Sunni sect.
The particular sect of any given mosque is based largely on the immigrants that support the mosque. In some areas, services may be conducted for both Sunnis and Shi'as, depending on whether there is an authorized Imman.

Muslims in America follow no specific sect.its mixed.you'll find some American Muslim who are shia and some who are Sunni and some who are Sufi and so on.

Sunni and Shiite are not political parties. They are tribes you are born into. It is true that each one has it's own agenda but once you are in that tribe, you stay there.
