I have just made little gifts for my sons kindergarten class.....they are soooooo cute:
Type out "Magic Reindeer Chow"
"please sprinkle on the lawn on Christmas Eve so the reindeer will come to your house" Staple this to a snack sized ziplock bag with oatmeal, red / green glitter, and I used red green and white sprinkes too. Mix them all up in the bag. The kids are going to love these!!!! I found a clipart of a cute reindeer for the phrase. They look adorable!

Little gifts to entire classes can get so out of control - you do it, another person does it, someone else feels bad because they didn't do it, and then a bunch of other people feel the need to do the same thing only bigger and better.... I'd suggest not starting it. I'm also wondering why giving a little gift to everyone in the class at the holiday party is going to make her first year memorable - wouldn't her good memories be built more upon her positive experiences and friends made during that year? If you'd like to make her experience memorable, I'd suggest volunteering to help with the holiday party and have other families help with the costs. If it's important to do something for the class that is special just for your daughter, you might want to wait and give a special item to the kids as her birthday treat to them. I'd think that would be more special to her, since that is *her* day.

Call me a Scrooge but I don't like this idea at all.

I think that, in order to be fair, all the children in the classroom should do it or none of the kids should do it. A lot of kids and their parents can't afford to do this no matter how inexpensive the gifts. Based on past experiences with nine Holiday events for my kids over the years, this can create a lot of hard feelings. Imagine yourself as the mom of the little kid who comes home with the gift and has to explain to their little one that they can't afford to give presents to everyone. We had two Christmases where my husband was unemployed. No fun at all when the other parents flashed their wallets at my kids and we couldn't reciprocate.

And, as another data point, are there any children in your daughter's classroom who do not celebrate Christmas? You can't very well single those children out to receive nothing because their feelings will be hurt. Their parents will be upset for the implied lack of respect for their choices.

Volunteer to be a room mom for the Holiday party. Offer to organize a craft in the classroom and provide the supplies where all the kids can make an craft and then draw names so that everyone who participates makes and receives a gift. Ask your teacher if you an provide an extra-special treat for the Holiday party.Would your daughter like to give a gift to the entire class by buying something the teacher needs for the classroom?

My personal opinion is that buying "class" gifts is very expensive and depending on the neighborhood you are in might start the competition thing between the parents, or worse, it looks like you are buying friendship. That's just my opinion.
HOwever.... if you really want to do something for the whole class maybe you can buy a some books for the classroom that will stay in the class and can be shared by everyone. Or.. sometimes you can get little apple ornaments from a dollar store (dollar general) take a glitter pen or permanent marker and write, "Merry Christmas 2006 from___________" then the children have a keepsake ornament from your daughter.

I would check with your school before sending baked goods. Many schools have rules about baked goods coming from bakeries in sealed packages. This has to do with child safety. My son and I made Rice Krispy treats one year for snack, and the teacher sent the whole container back.

Another thought... Go to the class Christmas party. Take a picture of your daughter's classmates with your daughter or other friends. Give the pictures to the students after christmas, matted on nice paper. They will have a picture of their friends from kindergarten and your daughter will have the memory of her mom coming to the party and participating in the games/ activities.

Have a wonderful Christmas.

Are there room moms who are planning a holiday party? If so, talk to the room moms about how you can help with the party. There may be things that they need for the snacks, crafts or games that they are planning. They may be putting together goody bags for all the kids.

Things we generally put in the goody bags/have used before for room parties -

- holiday pencils
- holiday erasers
- holiday stickers
-small bottles of bubbles
- small ball
- puzzles and such from the party supply store
- this year all the kids in my KG daughter's class are getting a jingle bell, like in Polar Express, since they have been working on that story
- homemade treats may or may not be allowed so ASK before making something

I always make candy cups, Walmart has these little plasic cups sets of 5 for 1$in the holiday isle and I fill those with candy and a pencil runs about 15$ for the class, which also has 22.

My daughter just had her christmas party.
Her gift bag from the teacher had a coloring book and a handful of little hairbows and a colorful pen.

go to the dollar store and get an assortment of little goodies - hairbows, army men, ping pong balls, etc. Anything that comes a lot in a bag. Add some assorted candy or a candy cane and you are set. If you get everything from the dollar store it shouldn't cost much.

What holiday are they celebrating?

Knowing that would help make a determination of what types of things to get them.

But let's just assume you are talking a CHRISTMAS party. You could find little snow globes at the dollar store. Kids love them, and they only cost a dollar each.

My daughter is also in kindergarten. We went to A.C. Moore and got wooden shapes for 25 cents each. I had a roll of magnet tape at home, so I affixed a piece of magnet to the back of each. We got various holiday shapes. Then I brought them in and had the kids do a craft with them. The kids colored the wooden shapes to make their own magnets. Cheap and fun.
