Well, I'm gonna be 46 years old next month, so I'm 13 years into uncharted "Jesus" territory. Am I as good as Jesus would have been, had he lived to be 46 or older? Would HE have been as good as we would like to hope he was?

Heck lady, we don;t even KNOW how Jesus was as kid, as a teenager, as a young adult, NOTHING. To hear anything even coming close to how Jesus behaved in his "formitative years" you have to read the Books of the Apocrypha. However, I'm warning you, these stories do NOT paint a very flattering picture of Jesus. In one story, a teenaged Jesus performs miracles to entertain his buddies; in another, Joseph laments to Mary about the need to keep Jesus indoors, because anyone on the street who annoys Jesus, is killed by him. These and other stories abound in the Books of the Apocrypha. They are called this because they were sent for possible inclusion in the Bible and were refused by this council who decided which books to include in the Bible and which ones to exclude. The Apocrypha books were excluded for pretty obvious reasons, mostly for painting a less than divine portrait of Jesus Christ in some stories, or, in the case of Old Testament stories, the events described were described better or more coherently or whatever in already-included books.

Whether you believe what you read in the Apocrypha books, or you dont, that is decided by how critical a thinker you can be. BUt the first step is to READ them. These books were all written around the same time, but a council of men decided for political and religious reasons which books to include in the Bible and which ones not to include. You owe it to yourself and your faith to seriously at least research all sides of an issue before making up your mind about ANYTHING, let alone something as important as this. Im not challenging your faith, far from it, but I just feel, well let's leave it at- differently -.

Not everybody can walk around preaching all day and eating other peoples food that they sweated and bled for. Only the rarest of beggars and thieves can actually live this way.

I on the other hand live a good life. I work hard each day. I provide for sustenance and housing for my wife and children. I help all my brothers and sisters, in-laws, cousins, aunts and uncles, grandparents, and neighbors whenever they ask for my assistance, and sometimes I offer it up without being asked. I go to sleep each night knowing the world is a better place that night because I lived and worked hard that day.

Sin

Jesus was, and is, perfect because he is God.

We have a sin nature which we've inherited. We can do pleasing things for God, out of love for him (not for salvation), and this is wonderful. But we will ultimately fall short of being like Jesus.

We are sinners (wrong-doers) and fall short in our efforts to please God (Romans 3:23). There is none righteous (perfect), not one (Romans 3:10).

We saved by the grace of God through faith in Jesus Christ (Eph 2:8,9). And because we are grateful for this saving grace, we naturally have works that flow from our living faith (book of James).

We can be Christ-like and are told to imitate Him (Eph 4) as best we can. And this is a "fruit" or evidence of our salvation experience.

But just because we will never become exactly like Jesus, that doesn't mean we aren't called to do the best we can to please God - out of love for a perfect, loving Father

Note - Jesus never sinned. I challenge the above poster to point to a Biblical passage which says he did. In fact, the Bible clearly states:

1 Peter 2:22 (quoting Isaiah 53:9) in reference to Jesus

"He committed no sin,
and no deceit was found in his mouth."

And, in Hebrews 7:26 (referring to Jesus), Such a high priest meets our need—one who is holy, BLAMELESS, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens.

You may agree or disagree, but don't claim that a study of the bible showed that Jesus sinned or made mistakes. He did not sin. He cannot -for He is God.

Cheers!

Well none of us are perfect but I do believe that the more you study the bible, the more you come to understand about Jesus and less care about the worldly things. It becomes easier and easier to make the right choices and feels less like you are trying too hard and more like he is changing you from the inside out.

Micheel,

I will attempt to answer your question. In short, no. Jesus was both fully God and fully man. As fully God, he was not able to sin and was immortal. As fully man, he was subjected to the same passions and temptations that we are subjected to. He willingly subjected his divinity to his humanity. But ultimately his divine nature kept his human nature free from sin.

We cannot do this as we are not divine. We can strive to be free of sin but we will fail from time to time because our fallen human nature is hard to overcome. Even after baptism, when we are given a new nature, we must constantly fight to prevent our fallen nature from recapturing us. Jesus knows what we are going though. He became man so that one day after it is all over he may make man divine. Keep striving it is part of the process.

Jesus made mistakes, and admitted to them - he took personal responsibilty for his actions, he helped others, he tried to be kind, bUT he also lost his temper, was rude on more than one occasion, and instigated trouble for himself.

He acted like every other god of mythos- and every other human who is generally a decent person.

Perhaps you should look at the real jesus presented in the bible, not the glorified and diefied version promoted these days.

We don't fall short at all. We are, indeed, very like him. Most of us, that is.

It's impossible to live like he did. Because he lived a sinfree life. We sin when we are merely learning how to speak.

We look to him as an example on how we should live our lives. Striving to be perfect. We know we can't, but it's the thought that counts. And it's the action that matters. So as long as we try to live a life like his, we will be seen loyal in God's eyes.

We sure can try. Living every day, trying (consciously) to not sin, and be happy and loving, is our greatest goal in life. Temptation stops us.

Give thanks and praise to the Lord and we will feel alright.

We can strive to be like Jesus, but we will fall short, because we are human.

No, we never will be as good or like Jesus. We are sinners and that is our nature. We can strive to be like him by perching and serving him in those ways. But we are not perfect or sinless like Jesus is. We can just strive to serve and spread the good news!!
Merry Christmas!!
