If memory serves, this is it, kir royale is a champagne coctail, cassis, which is like thick blackcurrent ( not ribena ) with a black cherry in it, the black cherry is the royale part. Like any and all champagne drinks it's great, but don't put too much cassis in. Hop this helps

The Kir Royale is a variation on the Kir cocktail. A Kir is 1 part Creme de Cassis (currant liqueur) to 5 parts white wine, with or without a lemon twist. The standard Kir Royale is one part Creme de Cassis to 5 parts Champagne, but the way I learned it, 1 part Chambord Liqueur is also added, again with a lemon twist.
The best way to make a Royale IMHO is to pour the two liqueurs into a mixing glass with ice and swirl/shake to cool it. Strain into a Champagne Flute and top off with the Champagne. Play around with different garnishes, too. A single black cherry in the bottom of the glass is nice, but a few red raspberries would be festive as well.
These are normally served as an aperitif before a good meal. Enjoy!

The Kir is named after the French priest Canon Felix Kir, who was a resistance hero during WW2, and who became the mayor of the city of Dijon.
Dijon is in the Burgundy region of France and two local crops are Burgundy wine and blackcurrants. We all know the famous white Burgundy which is made from Chardonnay, but they also make another white wine from the Aligote grape which is a sharper more acidic wine.
During hostilities the blackcurrant farmers suffered because they could not sell their products, and to show solidarity with them, Canon Kir started adding some of the blackcurrant liqueur (known as Cassis in France) to his mealtime glass of Aligote. The sweetness of the blackcurrant made the sharp thin wine more palatable.
So a Kir is Cassis and Aligote white wine - pour some cassis into a large wine glass and top up with Aligote (since this may be hard to find if you are not in Burgundy, use some other crisp white wine such as Sauvignon Blanc).
A Royale Kir is Cassis topped with Champagne.
No cherries, raspberries or paper umbrellas.

Chambord or any raspberry liquer and champagne.
pour the liquer (about 1/2 shot) into the bottom of the champagne flute and top with chilled champagne.
One of my all time favorites.
