I have been claiming head of household until now. my husband was laid off from his "real job" most of this year, however he also owns his own business. Should i file married separately, married jointly, head of household. help, help, help. i earn under 23000 a year and live in nj. my husband earned about 20000 with his real job and unemployment. i ususally get a return of 7500.

Your filing status should be married filing jointly(MFJ)

You can not file as Head of Household any longer as you are married. You can file as "Married Filing Jointly" or "Married Filing Separately". Generally, filing Jointly is almost always better. I am guessing most of your previous refunds were from EIC (Earned Income Credit). You won't qualify for this any longer so don't get your heart set on that large refund any longer.
