I'm buying a digital camera and want to make sure I can plug it in instead of burning up batteries and the one I'm looking at says it has DC power input...

No you cannot plug it into the wall, you may charge a DC battery but must have a converter between plug and battery. Edison first tried to commercialize DC but kept burning up the power lines. DC gets very hot. Tesla invented AC and all but put Edison out of business. In DC current the electrons flow in one direction only, this actually causes a lot of friction, hence heat. In AC the current alternates direction many times a second limiting friction. Sorry I did not catch you whole question. The batteries are DC but you camera will come with the adapter to charge them from a wall outlet. My bad.

DC is Direct Current, as opposed to AC which is Alternating Current.

It refers to the way the current flows through the wires from the source. In DC it flows one way, and in AC it alternates, in the US switching about 60 times per second. I'm not sure of the rate elsewhere.

DC is what is is produced by the steady flow of current from a battery. AC is what is produced by the spinning generators at a power plant.

Some devices that take DC power are designed to also work with an AC/DC power adapter. The circuitry in the adapter converts the AC power to be flowing in one direction. Generally they also reduce the voltage and current to match that of whatever batteries the device would run on.

With the right AC to DC adapter, yes you can plug it into the wall. Power from the wall is AC and will blow up your camera if you plug it in directly. Need the adapter.

DC means it runs on a battery.

AC means it only plugs into the wall.

If your product runs on batteries but also comes with a power plug, that means you have an AC adaptor.

Try it in a different outlet and check your connections. The AC adapter power cord has a connector on the "box" side, too: check that. Certainly the green light being dark is a bad sign. If it's working, the adapter should be somewhat warm, too, so see if it is (after 10 minutes or so). But there's a good chance that your adapter is dead.

DC means Direct Current
as opposed to AC which means Alternating Current
If it the same voltage as your supply, (240v in UK) and your home is DC (I believe most are) than yes, any more information?

Yes, Direct Current means that, but does the item have a power cord?

I think it is more as to regards the position of the positive and the negative charges in an electic current.
