Globally you will see drouts and therefore crop failures. Melting Ice will cause an increase in the flow of iceburges, which scientists believe will interupt the Gulf Stream. If this happens, UK will no longer gain benefits from warm water. Since we are on the same latitude as Moscow, it will get colder.

There will be flooding as sea level rise. We might also see greater extinction levels. In short, it will not be easy. As for the petrol question, it is not just cars. You also have de-forestation, population levels, etc. to consider.

I believe that Green Peace have a good web site.

Actually, if the trend continues where there are no sun spots, we could experience cold like what happened during the "little ice age" in the 1700 when there were no sun spots at all.

It appears that the over abundance of sun spots, which was causing increased heat, may have come to an end. Last month there were zero sun spots, which is a change from what has been happening for a significant number of years. It's believed that the sun is now entering a new cycle (either the 23rd or 24th) and the cooling effect will in turn affect the world temperatures.

Think you can already see signs that global worming is effecting us. Here in the UK some species of trees, especially ash, hazel, beach are excessively seeding most years and their canopies are thinning out. Where this is effect of excess radiation due to the ozone hole or from global warming is the question though. To the observant though there have been signs for the past five or six years. Also coastal erosion is very visible in places. In the summers soils are much drier than they used to be due to evaporation and there is a longer growing season.

Scientists generally won't help you with this one because they look backwards with certainty and forwards with only curiosity - so they won't tell you what's on their minds 'til they know for sure.

If you believe the spiel of the those that are making money polluting our atmosphere, the effects of global warming will be negligible and we'll all live happily ever after.

Unfortunately, what we are seeing tends to suggest things will turn out very differently. Could be that:-

Unpredictable and extreme weather together with higher temperatures will dramatically reduce global harvests. Luxury goods will be out of the question as families struggle to afford food, triggering a global recession.

Melting ice will cause sea-level rise that will displace millions.

Warmer oceans will alter the marine food chain with bad results for fisheries. This will also reduce the sea's capacity to store CO2 as valuable sea-organisms perish. The ocean's CO2 capacity will also be reduced by the higher temperatures (try keeping the fizz in your coke on a hot day with no ice.)

Localized warming in higher latitudes will completely melt the north polar ice cap causing the Earth to absorb more heat from the sun and also causing huge releases of greenhouse gases from ocean methane hydrate deposits and melting permafrost, thus accelerating climate change and warming the world to temperatures not conducive to sustaining 6 billion plus people (i.e. many will die).

These pressures may cause unrest resulting in violence and war. Governments will be unable to cope since their status as 'nanny-states' has been undermined by tax-cuts and corporate skulduggery with the resulting unravelling of civilization.

- or, on the other hand, hopefully mankind will feel a new sense of community, realise that we're all in this together and reform the world on more sustainable principles...(well, I can hope)

i do not think you want to know that because it is going to be bad according to what scientists say in the past ten years the temperature went up and as a result f that many animals are in danger like the polar bear .so in 50 to 80 years i think they will all extent also we will lose more people in places like Africa and south America because the weather is already hot and i do not think they could take any more of the heat.

Average temperature may rise a couple degrees, but it will not be especially noticeable. Weather patterns may change, currently wet areas may get less rain while some dry areas may get more. Sea levels may rise as glaciers melt; some people are predicting a 20 foot rise but I suspect it will be much less. I say may because we are not all that good at predicting the weather, so I do not believe any specific predictions that are out there.
