Wrecker services are suppose to report privately towed vehicles to the police dept. If the police had it towed, there would definitely be a record. Make a report of it being stolen, but tell the officer that it may have been told. Tell him the situation and he wil check before your vehicle is placed in NCIC as stolen.

Even if the car was towed, how would you know if it was stolen by the police? Have you ever considered that possibility?

Call your Police dept. or Sheriff's dept the towing co. has to notify them if they are reposing a vehicle for the finance co. Sometimes the towing co. might not notify them but they are suppose to. If they have no record then it might have been stolen.
