my 21st birthday is on monday and i just had a baby boy in july. i've wanted to get tattooed for a long time and i figure now is a good time. i want to get something for him, his name is ethan, but i don't know what to get. i don't want anything cartoonish and childish and i don't really want hand or footprints either. I thought about getting "sit meus vita" ("he is my life" in latin) in really pretty script somewhere. i only have two days to figure it out though!

i only have two days because i want to get it on my birthday, which is on two days. i'm not worried about regretting it because it's for my son, so that alone will make me not regret it. if i have other kids, i will get more tattoos for each of them. the point was to make the tattoo small and indiscreet, i guess i forgot to mention that.

it's definitely for me. i've been wanting a tattoo for years but could never decide on what i wanted. i don't think there's anything else more perfect for me to get than something that honors my son.

the reason i liked the latin was for the reason that very few other people would know what it meant, sort of like keeping a special bond between him and me.

Sit meus vita is very ungrammatical Latin. Meus does not correctly modify vita, and sit is in the subjunctive mood (he may/should/might be my life, or let him be my life). Not quite what you had in mind, I bet.

meus filius mea vita est = my son is my life
is mea vita est = he is my life

You really need to specify the subject (is or meus filius), otherwise it could be taken to mean my life is... and look unfinished. You could also use anima in place of vita for your phrase. It has a more poetic meaning to it.

I LOVE IT! I have a 6 year old, and I took 2 of my favorite drawings that he did, and had them tattooed on the back of my neck. One is a pirate saying "ARRGH" and the other one is a ghost with his name written inside of it. It is very special, and although it is not the best piece of art on my body, it is my favorite because it has the most meaning to me. I really like your idea, and I think the Latin is beautiful, just be prepared that if you put it in a place that people can see you will have to explain what it means all of the time.

Sweetheart, why do you only have two days to figure it out??

If you want a tattoo, you should think about it for MUCH longer than two days, otherwise you might end up regretting what you get, even if it is for your son.

Edit:

I saw you wanted to have it done on your birthday.. and that's all well and good, but you aren't going to get any younger, so you'll be able to get the tattoo whenever you want. Not just on that one day.

Just take your time to think about it.

I'm sure you'll have many opportunities to get a tattoo in the near future, so don't rush it.

Not many people will understand the latin phrase. Why not do a simple mom holding a baby and his name below, but then again, you are young and will probably have more babies. Will you put all their names in tattooes?? Maybe a simple drawing of mom & child would honor all children you might have.

I had an anklet tattooed with my son's name and my grandaughters name - with a heart charm dangling down. It looks like an ID bracelet with one name on each side - the chain has links and was done larger so the detail can be seen... You could do the same with an anklet....

Like this can be a unhealthy instance of what im speaking approximately however on account that she's the mother.. like she could have a tattoo of whatever that symbolizes the 'supply' of whatever, and also you and your bro could be the outcome.. like she could be a fowl.. and also you 2 could be eggs (I advised you unhealthy instance). Like she would have a tree with apples on it (unhealthy suggestion once more arising.. simply typing what im considering), and with that equal layout of the apple..the apples would be tattooed on you and your bro.. you already know what I imply? (i feel im taking into consideration that quote.. apple doesnt fall from the tree sigh)..

tattoos are fun and usually everyone that gets one, means something to that specific individual. im 39 and have 2 tats-one small one under bikini line and one that is small on my ankle. Both can be covered. I have three children and i would like one on my upper-back under neath my neck with my kids initials. so ask yourself if you think you will regret it in 30 years and if not get a tat and show it off and be happy.

I like your idea, might also put his name in Latin as well. I would wait awhile and think about it. It is forever. I have wanted to get a tattoo since I was 17. I waited until I was 26. Good luck!!!!

I like tattoos but I don't think you should do something for your son because what if you have more children? Will you get tattoos for each one?Cause it won't be ok to have only for your first one!If you really want to do it try and find some other idea, something that represents you for example...

I have a tattoo (which is hard to explain) on my left thigh with both my daughter & my son's name on it. When you pick a tattoo, pick something that has meaning to you that way in 40 years you wont look back & go, "what the heck was I thinking???"
