It will grow back, and relatively fast. I have a lhaso apso mix, and he'll start looking like a shaggy sheepdog after two or three months.

However, keep in mind that lhaso apsos require quite a bit of grooming and brushing to keep mats out of their fur. You'll be brushing him every day. Be careful when you first do this...sometimes dogs are shaved down because they get nippy when they're brushed.

You need to start brushing it now---& have a professional groomer who does drape coated dogs show you how to line brush the dog with a slicker brush. It takes 6 months---2 years to grow a 'specials' coat, & the dog will go through the puppy coat stage again when the coat gets to be about 3 inches long. Matts are caused by dirt & static electricity, & will start in the moving parts: armpits, behind ears, under chin, where back legs attach to body---& spread out. If you don't use the correct bruch & correct method, he'll have to be shaved again. don't trust a pet shop clerk to show you how---either find a person who shows dogs near you (look in kennels in the phone book) or a groomer.
