not so much for the bread crumbs but for the onions instead. There isn't alot of breading on those onion rings. You would have to use a ton of onion rings to get the right amount of breading. But then it would be overly powered with too much oinion flavor (not for me though i love onions)
So i would use as a partial amount the some other breading like oatmeal (i always use oatmeal in meatloaf)
best to trial and error though

You don't really need bread crumbs or saltine crackers. You could put some of the french fried onions in as flavoring. I'd go lighter on using them than you would the crumbs or crackers. Also a little shredded up carrot in it is good! Try just using only the egg yolk or the egg white as the glue, so that it won't be too pastey. I don't know if it'd work well, but I wonder about a little bit of dry potatoe flakes if you have 'em.
And it does sound REALLY good & will also be a good substitution, & I'd go lighter. Unless you really dig the onion taste, go full flavor. I for one like a light onion flavor, unless it's onion powder I like using that alot. (Thx for the idea!) :)))!
Mmmm, oatmeal, should try that, too! :)

Probably not as a substitute Since bread crumbs and crackers are meant to bind or help hold the meat loafs shape in help to absorb the moister but keep the flavor. Might be a tasty addition though.

There is a great chicken recipe on the can of Durkees French Onions. It is very simple and so delicous...you basically dip the chicken breast in egg and then toss it in crushed up french onion piecesand bake...I also love to top my salads with them :)

Great thinking - it will lend a stronger flavor, yet satisfy the binding requirement that breadcrumbs/crackers usually perform. You might go a little lighter on the onions and perhaps crush them a bit.

Never heard of it but it sounds delicious. My only concern is that the onions would add moisture to the loaf. But you should be able to tell if anything else is needed when you mix your ingredients. Let us know how it turns out. I'm making meatloaf tonite.

Yeah! Sounds like it would be really good. Make sure you crunch up the fried onions so that be crusty part gets distributed evenly throughout the meat.

It won't be a great sub for the bread crumbs but they add a nice taste and texture.
