My daughter will be turning 1 soon and I don't want to "go all out" for her birthday but I want it to be special. So could you give me some ideas or tell me what you did for your child's first birthday? What type of decorations, who you invited, what type of food you served etc.?
Thank you!

My bf and I weren't getting along that day, so I said the heck with it, and just ended up having it with my family at my parents house. Nothing had been really definite anyway, cuz I wanted people there, but I didn't want to overwhelm her. Anyway, I blew up some balloons, which she loved, just hung a happy birthday sign up, got some birthday plates. I had it with my immediate family (parents, siblings), me and my daughter. I got a decorated cake for her from the store bakery, it was a really cute Care Bears cake, since she knew them. Overall the day didn't go very well, my daughter had just started a cold the night before, plus I had an appt. to get her pics done the morning of her birthday. Because of the cold, and everything going on, she missed her nap and wasn't the happiest little birthday girl I had anticipated... My advice is keep it simple, because going overboard will cause too much chaos and commotion, plus, you have no idea how things will go. Just having someone to celebrate her birthday with will make it special for her. She doesn't need a ton of expensive decorations or fancy foods. A nice birthday mylar balloon goes over pretty well at that age! Just for something different and special. You could always invite a few people, and let others come over another time just to see her and share gifts.

For my daughter's first birthday we had it at our house and only invited close family members and friends. We had 2 cakes, one for adults and once small one for my daughter to dig into. We served soft drinks and maybe chips but no food. Honestly, my husband's family will stick around all night as long as their is food to eat, so i just kept things real simple! I decorated with pink and purple streamers and a few balloons, and a happy birthday banner. It was very simple and inexpensive. Take lots of pictures and video so that your daughter can see it when shes older! For my daughters 2nd birthday we had it at mcdonalds with a play place. I highly recommend that for a 2-3 year old because its very inexpensive and they do all the work!

properly my oldest is the actually one which has had a celebration (she's 3 and my infant is basically 5 months) yet for her first social gathering it wasn't themed. It became only close friends and kin. Her 2d social gathering became "princess" themed, that are like minded completely as she became and nonetheless is lower than the idea she's a princess... each thing became red- she wore a tiara and a tutu. i tried to no longer go the Disney Princess route, so it became only without delay princess. precise before we had her third social gathering, we had equipped a huge heated pool with a wrap round deck and we had a pool celebration (she also thinks she's a fish lol)... that became our common. We did no longer ought to purchase a lot at the same time as it got here to decorations (which became reliable when we spent 1000's on our pool!), only specifically balloons and some pool toys, which we already had extremely some. there have been countless little ones there... we BBQed and served dinner buffet type nutrition and swam... it became fantastic, no longer too stressful and he or she and all of her little friends loved it!

My daughter just turned a year old on December 10 and we had her party on december 9.We had pizza,2 cakes and sence we got the cakes at walmart they give the baby their own little cake for their first birthday. To drink we had soda, tea, koolaid, water, ect. The cakes were decorated as CareBears cause my daughter loves the carebears and then we got carebears plates, cups,
napkins, and then we got a banner that said happy birthday that was carebears and got some center peices that were carebears to go around the cakes. The people that were there was mommy,daddy,3 older brothers(6,4,3),cousin,great grandma, second cousin and his wife and their 2 kids(4,3),friend of mommys who is pregnant, family freind and her boyfreind and child(18 months) and family freind, her husband, her sister and their 4 kids(6,4,2 and 7 months). So there was about 22 people or so there.Plus we got alot of pictures of not only our daughter eating her own cake but of her opening presents, with all her presants after they was opened, and of the people that were at the party. We had gotten our daughter a new pant and sweater outfit, boots, necklace that says Daddy's little girl, and got her ears pierced. We just gotta take her in and get her pictures taken now.Plus she also got 4 new baby dolls,2 other new outfits, long sleeve onesies, plus my aunt had sent her a necklace that is a duck that was my cousin's when she was little(my cousin passed away about 6 months ago) and she also got a doller(my aunt gives you amount of money on how old you are)

I already live with my family so when my son turned 1 I invited some of my friends over to spend his first birthday and mainly we fussed over the baby and sang to him and gave him a slice of his birthday cake it was a yellow cake with marshmallow frosting because I didn't know if he could have chocolate yet but I wanted to keep his celebration small. He's 2 and a half but so far I make him homemade cakes from scratch for his birthday I think it makes it more special.

We were in another state where we didn't know anyone and family was 1000 miles away. We took him to Chuck E. Cheese. He had a blast! There were so many kids there and he loved watching them. Then we had a cake that we stripped him down and let him dig into. I don't think I would have done it much different if we had been close to "home" because he is so little. We got great pics of him smiling and having fun. There will be plenty of time to spend tons of money on birthdays when he is old enough to remember it.

Clothes: a cute dress that doesnt cost too much because you'll be mad when you find out she peed in it

What I did: had a small party at my house; not too loud because some kids cry

Decorations: thousands of ballons because babies love playing w/ balloons

Invited: family and really close friends, also some people from my job that had kids

Food: finger foods, food that kids wouldn't choke over if they grabbed it

I had their birthday parties at home, and invited family, and close friends with children their ages. I got them a cake to share with guests, and made them a small one for them to enjoy by themselves. For the one's who have their birthdays in the summer, I served burgers and chips, and in the winter I served them manwiches and chips, and don't forget the hotdogs too. I only bought the birthday plates and napkins, and hats. No one wore the hats though, except for the pictures. I depends on what you want to spend there. You can take them to a pizza parlor that caters for birthdays, but this can be quite expensive unless the guests buy their own pizza's which is only reasonable. Most you don't have to pay for their birthday special, just bring your own cake and icecream, have the guests order their own pizza's and drinks.

We had a small b-day party... just family (both sets of grandparents). My daughter liked Elmo... so, we got some plates and some hats with Elmo on it from a local party store. We got a couple of balloons. It was basically just a nice lunch on Elmo plates -- a couple of her favorite foods.

Here's a tip: Most grocery stores will give you a small birthday cake (serves 5-6) for free... A lot of them send a card out in the mail -- just order it a couple of days ahead.

We videotaped some parts of it... and took a few snapshots with a camera.

It's always nice to go some place fun- and for mom, no clean up! I took my daughter to McDonalds along with a couple of my friend's kids and her grandparents. we had fun watching her play, dig in to her cake, and open her first presents. if you want to do a home party, serve pizza and punch, cake and ice cream. decorate with things like Dora or princess plates and stuff like that. She'll enjoy the attention more than anything!
