For 21 years my dad and I never got along because we were so much alike and so on.
Months before my 22nd birthday, I realized the problems I have and got treated for it. I respect him now and treat him nicely and respectful. He likes that.
Well for the first time in my life, he actually called me and left me a message on my cell phone to wish me a happy birthday and gave me a hundred bucks.
You know something else that's funny? Nobody else knew he called me.
What would this mean? Is it because I respect him more and understand why he acts the way he does or something?

You started treating him better, and he realizes that you really don't hate him. You opened the door, and he knows now that he's welcome to enter your life.
As far as not telling anyone else he called... I can see that. My dad wasn't a big "sharing emotions" kind of guy.
I hope you and he continue to build this relationship.

Is your dad a private person? Maybe he wants to straight and get things sorted with you first before the rest of the family know.
Just be happy that he has made the first move and that things are looking up. If i were you you could ring him to say thank you and maybe have a bit of a chat with him. But take things slowly and hopefully in time the two of you will have a better and improved relationship

Im glad your getting on now, not really understanding the whole part about you getting treated but it sounds like its personal to you.
Ignore the person saying he hates you. There are some complete idiots on here! You can never hate your children, even when you dont see eye to eye you still love them to pieces.
Treat this as a new start and try to forget your previous relationship with him.

because he is your dad and he loves you, yes because you have changed your attitude towards him, probably he wanted to do this a long time ago but you were not get along well with him, now you broke the ice so he just did what he had always wanted to do. congragulations.
