Does that mean that evolution is wrong and polygamy is right?

Oh, and to dd below, David and Solomon are not saints, only people who died after Christ can be sanctified.

It does not matter. Evolution has been proven to be correct, so if it cannot be reconciled with the bible (and I clam that that is the case), then the bible is wrong. End of story.

The Bible records the fact that David and Solomon had multiple wives. It does not approve of the fact they did it. Rather the Israelites were worried before they got their first king, Saul, to not let their kings have multiple wives or keep many stables of horses (because that would increase the size of the army).

Because they allowed David to have multiple wives, he had fighting and murder going on between the sons of the different women. His son Absolom rose against David and actually overthrew him for several months.

Solomon also was led from the worship of God to allowing the worship of other gods by his wives.

Just because an action is recorded in the Bible as having happened does not mean the God approved. Read the whole book if you want to understand its whole teachings.

Keep it in context.
Evolution is not mentioned.
Creation is given as how everything began.
Polygamy was right for that culture at that time.

The Bible says God "spoke" everything into existence.
Did you know that science has recently come up with a theory that agrees with this? In quantum mechanics, they have come up with the "String Theory" to explain what makes up everything. There are these vibrating "strings" of energy, and how they are arranged, comprise all of matter. Sound being vibrating energy... what do you conclude?

Science has always been man's way of trying to comprehend God's creation. They have not always been right... world being flat, or the center of the universe, evolution theory, etc. Perhaps in this case they are right!

I have been reading about David of the Bible recently and did you know that because he committed adultery which btw resulted in a baby, and that for punishment for Davids sin the baby was killed?
I could not tell you if one is wrong or right all I can say is,
what a harsh penalty the child had to pay for his daddy's sin of adultery.

What does one have to do with the other?

Why is (a limited form) of darwinian evolution a contradiction to creation? For example, God creates 'dog'. Over time, through selective breeding and other factors, we get a st.bernard and a dachshund. What we don't get from 'dog' is horse.

Polygamy is permissible under biblical law...but with many requirements and restrictions. While permissible, it was not widely practiced and not highly recommended. when it came to kings, however, polygamy was often a duty as it was, and still is, common to seal treaties with arranged marriages.

Evolution decries polygamy? Since when?

Lots of things were done in the Bible that were not right. Just because it's mentioned doesn't mean it's right.

Dear Pdigoe,

The Bible shows us mankind's flaws but it does NOT espouse polygamy or any other sin. It shows us what all people were like and our need for a Savior.

The Bible does not say it was right for them to have multiple wives.

Genesis 1:24 says "That is why a man will leave his father and his mother and he must stick to his wife and they must become one flesh." Wife, singular. Also Matthew 19:5 & Ephesians 5:31-33.

In 1 Timothy 2:2, 12 we read that those who are reaching out to be elders or ministerial servants (deacons, KJV) are to be "a husband of one wife" among other qualifications. Also Titus 1:6.

Long before David or Solomon, before Israel even had a king, Jehovah foretold that they would eventually have a human king. This is in Deuteronomy 17:14-20.

David and Solomon were disobedient, as noted in Dueteronomy 17:17 - "He should also not multiply wives for himself, that his heart may not turn aside; nor should he increase silver and gold for himself very much."

In Solomon's case that is exactly what happened. As we read in 1 Kings 11:1-6:
"And King Solomon himself loved many foreign wives along with the daughter of Pharaoh, Moabite, Ammon·ite, Edomite, Sidonian and Hittite women, from the nations of whom Jehovah had said to the sons of Israel: 'You must not go in among them, and they themselves should not come in among you; truly they will incline your heart to follow their gods.' It was to them that Solomon clung to love them. And he came to have seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines; and his wives gradually inclined his heart. And it came about in the time of Solomon’s growing old that his wives themselves had inclined his heart to follow other gods; and his heart did not prove to be complete with Jehovah his God like the heart of David his father. And Solomon began going after Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians and after Milcom the disgusting thing of the Ammonites. And Solomon began to do what was bad in the eyes of Jehovah, and he did not follow Jehovah fully like David his father."

Note in that: "And it came about in the time of Solomon’s growing old that his wives themselves had inclined his heart to follow other gods." Just like Jehovah said would happen.

Oh, and yes evolution is wrong.

I do not understand why would compare the practice of polygamy with the dogma of evolution.

There is no such thing as evolution and it does not mean David having many wives was right

No, it simple means the bible is an old book, written several hundred years ago, reflecting the hope, dreams and fears of a desert tribe. Today, our perspective - through science and other areas - has expanded considerably.
