Not long ago my boss and I discussed this subject. I don't really think that I am either nicer or meaner on-line. But I am much more formal. I think about what I type, re-read it before sending, am a bit anal about spelling, and my vocabulary is much larger. In person, I am a very informal person. I butcher the English language with slang, use a lot of facial expressions (sometimes without words), and use descriptions like "thing-a-ma-bob" and "thingy" often.
I don't mean to be different on-line but I can't help it. I start typing and it turns out in a formal style. But I try to be polite whether in person or on-line.

In the real world I'm seldom want to bother expressing my thoughts with exception to my Girlfriend and upon occasion my Family and closest friends. Even as such I am limited in the amount I care to discourse given the interplay of conversation and of course the natural decorum that these interactions allow for. I use this medium as a cathartic release from the mind numbing events I need to address as I resolve my way into the journey towards the abyss. To the public at general I vacillate between the kind and the cruel as the situation dictates and expedience requires, I have no set way of being. Oh these things that I have done, to build my world around me; to the grave; outside this box; and into the next! Thank You for this excellent question.

This is a good question. I'm pretty much the same online as offline. As for this site specifically, I think it depends on the tone of the question posed that determines how I will respond. If I detect hostility or mean-spirited nature in the question, I won't always be kind in response (and that's if I choose to respond to such a question). Generally, though, I try to answer questions in person and online with respect for the asker...and an understanding that rudeness doesn't get you very far.

I am a blunt person I say what I feel. I type the truth on here and most do not care. I am the same off line as I am here.

Just the opposite for me. I do not mind telling Christians what I think of their religion on here-as I have Christian friends, I would never say anything to people. I do find the more time I spend on here in a day's time, I get angrier and angrier and have more and more to say-in not such a nice way.

interesting question! I think I'm more honest and direct than I would be if I were asked the same question face to face. Here, if the person doesn't like my answer I don't feel bad about that, because it is of little consequence to myself. Yet I try not to be rude.

I'm generally about the same.
I put the same amount of thought into what I speak as what I write. Even the vocabulary and cadence of my writing mirrors my speech.
Certainly when I click into sarcastic mode, any person who knows me in "real life" would recognize my writing here!

I think I'm about the same. I am usually sincere and thoughtful but there are times I say crass and thoughtless things either as a joke or due to stress.

I am about the same as I am toward people I don't know very well. I am nicer to those I am close to in real life.
