because he doesn't exist or don't care?

Signs of a higher power are evident in many ways in day-to-day life. There's the little things, like the beauty and complexity of nature. The bigger things are the far more fascinating evidence, though. Our brightest scientists have never answered the most important question- why? Einstein himself said that the more he discovered about the universe, the more he believed in a higher power. I think the biggest evidence is that every time we discover something (as an individual, as a species, as a group, whatever); whenever we find the answer to a question, two more questions always come up- that is, no matter how much we learn, we will never know it all.

My point is, the problem is choice. Humans, be they atheist or believer, choose their belief. Atheists have rationalizations for "miracles," and choose to rationalize the evidence they see, but there are many things in this world even science cannot explain. Believers do the same thing, but in the opposite way. They choose to have faith in the idea that what they cannot comprehend is simply controlled by a power they cannot fully understand with the limitations of the human mind.

Here's the answer: if we all knew God exists, we would all be good people, we would never sin, we wouldn't be human in the way we define humanity ("without suffering, there would be no compassion"). If we knew God exists, we wouldn't have to do what is right because of faith, morals, and choice, we would do it out of fear and/or obligation. We would do what is right because we would KNOW that it's the right thing. Without this proof, we must search inside of ourselves to determine what is right; we must govern and restrain ourselves and find strength in ourselves. God proving Himself would contradict the idea of free will, which is one of the greatest powers we have as human beings (even atheists and believers can agree on that).

"Blessed is he who believes and has not seen."

Would it really matter if God came down from heaven and said "I am God. Believe in me."? Maybe, but if you know the Bible, that didn't work back in the day when Jesus roamed the earth. Everyone near him saw the miraculous things he did, heard his preachings, and saw his love, but he was still crucified by "unbelievers". That is why faith is what we need. I've always used this term, and nothing describes the reason behind loving God better.."I would rather have faith in God, believing that when I die I will spend eternity in a glorious heaven with him, than refuse to believe in anything and die and go to hell (or nothing, whatever you believe)." Sounds to me like my option ends up best AND makes me a more loving person for it. There is no IF God existed..He does. Some have the faith to believe it and some don't.

This is one of the fundamental questions. As a true believer in God and a follower of Christ, I will do my best to try to help. In the Old Testament, God used signs like the burning bush, parting of the red sea (through Moses), etc, and you know what? Not everyone believed in Him! Then in the New Testament, He sends Jesus to the earth, fully human yet also fully God, and he performs many miracles, healings, and forgives sins. And guess what? There were STILL people who did not believe that he was the son of God, much less that there was a God! I know that God still performs miracles today. I see them in people's lives as well as my own, and unbelievers chalk those sort of things up to "luck," "coincidence," or "fate." The bottom line is: God knows, because He created us, that even if He came down from Heaven, showed His face and yelled at us that there would still be those who didn't believe. And, like someone said above, it is kind of a "faith thing," too. If God forced us to love Him, what kind of love would that be? He wants us to choose to love Him and accept our salvation through Christ. I hope this was helpful.

"For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse." Romans 1:20 (NIV)

God does not need to prove his existence to anyone, His creation is there for you to see. Remove every prejudice you have against religion and look around. Nothing just happens.

I don't think God ever intended to FORCE anyone to follow him. It's up to that atheist to realize a hunger inside himself/herself for God, and to seek him. And God could definately prove his existence to that atheist, and probably has, but considering the atheist doesn't believe in God, he or she would not see God in the ways God was trying to reveal himself.

The proof is all around you. How is it possible for an unborn child to survive submerged in liquid and why is the earth just in the right spot so that life is possible on earth. It is just obvious that we were designed by someone very powerful and intelligent.

You should keep asking him though to prove himself even further though and he will. Pay attention to the little things in your life. He is invisible but he is everywhere and always there with you. Why should he?....he is God after all he dosent have to prove anything to us, even if he was to, there would probably be people still questioning his works....if we cannot believe some of the things here on earth...how on earth are we going to believe all of the things in heaven?

Does a parent have to prove it is the child's parent or has the child grown up knowing who the parent is. An orphan has the need to ask that question.

God does not force Himself on anyone. If He wanted to, He could have made us perfect by not giving us free will. That would make us all programmed robots, and love would not be possible, because it is not given freely.
