Well, any breakup is painful. But I think that a breakup should be easier tot tolerate if you just BREAK UP with your partner. Calling or seeing him/her after the breakup can increase your pain, so make it so that you never run into/him her.

And some other day, you'll just forget. Time heals. In the meantime, try do something: pick a hobby, get out with your friends, don't torment yourself. Eventually you'll find someone else, and the cycle will start again.

Depends on the circumstances; there really isn't one uniform way,it depends on why you are breaking up; if it is because you have found someone else, I'd keep it low key. If it is because of issues you have with him, don't be too nasty about it, keep the high ground, be the bigger person.
