No I think you are absolutely right in the vast majority of cases. I work in special needs education and frankly, all the labels they put on these conditions all boil down to funding. If it has a name, if it a real 'condition' there is money available for support. In my experience (which is quite extensive) most of these conditions are little more than learned behaviour, bad parenting and what I like to call 'little s***' syndrome. These kids are usually just nasty kids who haven't been taught right from wrong.
Because I work in SEN, I know how ADD and ADHD are 'diagnosed' by educational psychologists and most of it could be applied to ANY child. Things like 'has difficulty staying in their seat' or 'frequently forgets their stuff'. What isn't easily distracted, what kid doesn't forget to do things? It is all about funding and support.
These kids are put on heavy duty drugs like Ritalin and walk around like zombies half the time when all they really need is structure, boundaries and parenting.

Not all people with Tourettes syndrome say swear words. You have obviously never been around a kid with ADHD, or had a kid with ADD. They are not attention getting disorders any more than cancer. A lot of people thought depression was a fake illness too, until they became more educated. Just because you think it's fake, doesn't mean it is. However, you are entitled to your opinion.

Gilles de la Tourette's Syndrome is a rare disorder of movement, named after the French neurologist who first described it in 1885, now commonly termed Tourette syndrome. It starts in childhood with repetitive grimaces and tics, usually of the head and neck, sometimes of the arms, legs, and trunk. Involuntary barks, grunts, or other noises may appear as the disease progresses. In about half the cases, the sufferer has episodes of coprolalia (using foul language).
The syndrome is more common in males, and is probably underdiagnosed because of its strange symptoms. It is usually of lifelong duration but anti-psychotic drugs, such as halopridol, can provide effective relief in some cases.

look at it this type. the motor vehicle isn't the driving force and the driving force isn't the motor vehicle. A defective automobile isn't the driving force, except the driving force is the single that is defective. If Absolute Guilt isn't latest contained in the driving force then the defective automobile isn't the backside for malice. All creatures and all creations posses with truthfully the purely in various levels and point. As such truthfully the is a baseline for all issues and suggestions, at such whilst the soul is outdoors its type it can't lie and any malice would be unable to be hidden. truthfully the exist and demands no validation nor praises for a job we concept nicely achieved. it may take in all unfavourable and beneficial suggestions seeing it incredibly is a baseline for all, as such your words of malice exist purely contained in the assumption-approximately people who made them, thereby one that made them is the single that know malice and guilt and punishes an analogous by using self condemnation.

Tourettes does exist-not all sufferers curse, make sounds, and shout. Some 'only' have tics. My son had Tourette's-suffering from tics quite badly. Didn't stop him from graduating with high grades from high school, graduating top of his class from Navy training school, and enjoying his career in the Navy. And no-he never used it as an excuse. He just wanted to get on with things and live a normal life.

Most don't swear. Its a VERY RARE symptom, but it is sensationalized for its "comic" effect. Rude, really.
Educate yourself about this condition here: http://www.tsa-usa.org
View this Emmy winning documentary about kids with TS. It's titled "I Have Tourettes, But Tourettes Dosen't Have Me", produced by HBO and the TSA.
BTW, some people DO shout regular words.

actually i believe it to be a medical condition. when i first heard about it, i thought that someone was pulling my leg and people were joking about it at first, but i've witnessed people with tourettes and alas, they are given a rough time by people, who mock their condition. though yes there are others who'd mess about and pretend to others they have tourettes and who continuously shout out an expletive or two because they assume its something to joke about at their own expense. can you imagine being in a shop, minding your own business- then all of a sudden you cannot help but shout '****!' or 'wanker!' ?and people start to look at you. not only is it embarassing but you cannot do anything to eradicate it, other than to take medication to control it.

Undecided about Tourettes, but I agree that bad parenting is the cause of most children's behaviour problems - just watch an episode of Supernanny to see what results can be achieved!

Most people with Tourette's don't have verbal outbursts at all, only up to 15% of people who have it. Typically it's just tics, like twitches and similar things. Just because it is portrayed one way doesn't mean that's how it really is.

I don't think you are being unreasonable but I do believe that Tourettes is real as I used to know a sufferer. However, I also think that once someone is diagnosed, in some cases they play on it and do use it as an excuse to swear incessently.

unless you are an expert in this field i think you are being unreasonable.
two of my friends have children with adhd and with the help of medication and support the children are now living fuller happier lives.
they are not attention seeking people - they have a genuine medical condtion.
if i were you i would look into what having this condition means to these people and those around them before passing such comments
