I had a conversation with a muslim friend and he got all upset when I quoted the bible as saying Isaac was considered the heir to the promised land and that Ishmael was not cursed by god but was considered illegitimate heir because he was born out of marriage to Hagar. He went off and argued this and that. Just wanting some opinions as why muslims are so sensitive to this issue when they supposedly accept the old testament as factual. The old testament is pretty clear on the subject that Ishmael was not cursed but blessed by god but he was not considered heir to Abraham.

Because that is the very beginning and foundation of lies they have been taught by their religion. If they believe the truth about Isaac and Ishmael, then they will have to understand the rest of their faith is wrong and the belief system is compromised.

Religious logic is cyclical in nature, therefore any logical debate is useless and becomes frustrating. Which is why they become upset when you try to have a intellectual conversation about facts of their religion. For example, you can't say something like "if god created us, then who created god?" The whole point of that argument is moot because no human can factually answer that.

Because they know the truth and they beleive it more than we do.
That is why all Arab nations have United one time or another to fight Israel and deem it their sacred duty for a Nation of 3 Billion or so to fight a 5 million one. They are afraid because of their belief that they would be conquered if Israel is let to stand

Because they know you are right and have no plausible answer. I get to know this very often in conversation with Muslim. Usually they get very angry, shout, offend and close up and change the subject.
