huh? ok you said you did weed and coke in 2003? well it is definitely out if your system by now, but if you were arrested because of it then it might put a slight hamper on things, but if you just tried it and quit, then there should be no problem. and of course getting your BA in criminal justice will help. but maybe you should go down to the police station and ask around to see what types of classes you should take to help you out. good luck!!

Some of these answers to this question are so juvenile!
Every department has different standards on what is acceptable in your past. The state that you live in will also set standards; such as, never been convicted of a felony.
If you apply for a position and they ask about your past drug usage, just be honest. The time that has lapsed since the last time you did it will help, but they may disqualify you if you have every done any felony drug.
The quitting 2 jobs issue depends.... Did you give a 2 wk notice, did you quit while under an internal investigation, how long did you work there before you quit. These are all things that most departments will look at and then make a decision based off of each situation.
The BA in Criminal Justice will help. It is always a good idea to educate yourself in the field that you wish to pursue.

It doesn't look too good buddy. It's not so much that you did that stuff but that it was relatively recent. BA will help get a job in the field but just about any degree is a plus. Job history is not a big deal unless the sheriff's department is looking to put up a chunk of money to have you trained. They are going to want to have some assurance you won't bail on them. Be honest with the employer no matter what. Here in this state...your background is not a deal breaker but if u lie and get caught it's over. I had to take a polygraph. They asked me about a 1000 questions and it sucked.

Just make sure you tell the Sheriff;s Dept EVERYTHING you did, so you dont have to worry about it coming back to haunt you later.
When I was in Military Intelligence, they "vet" you, like an intewrview and they arenot interested in WHAT you've done, but they need to know about it so you can't be blackmailed into helping out criminals.
Getting a degree in Criminal Justice cannot HURT your chances, it might even put in line to be a detective. Your past job history should not hurt your chances, unless you had jobs like Drug Runner for the Cartels, Mob Enforcer. etc.
Good luck and I swear that baggie aint mine, Ossifer!

when you fill out an app to join the sheriff they will ask you if you've ever did any type of drugs, if you've ever been arrested stuff like that. i wouldn't lie on the app because they will find out and you could go to jail for lining on a police app. as for quiting your two jobs now i wouldn't recommend that. what if you don't get accepted? then you won't have a job to support you until the next testing cycle

Lets put it this way....if you're competing against several candidates who DIDN'T do any of this...then they'll get first slot over you.
Quitting 2 jobs may not hurt you at all. However police departments look at past job history to see how relaiable you were. If your bosses at the former jobs bad mouth your performance or your work records stinks then kiss the job sayanora.

You should have waited until AFTER you were a cop to to the pot and coke, then it wouldn't be an issue. I hear that drugs are free if you have a badge.
