It refers to the Greek Alphabet which has Alpha as the letter A and Omega as we would know it to be the letter Z. It means, on a deep level, that God says He is the beginning and the End. All life started with and in Him and will end with Him too. In the Bible there are several cases where it is referred to, as outlined below:

Revelation 1:8
"I am the Alpha and the Omega," says the Lord God, "who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty."
Revelation 1:7-9 (in Context) Revelation 1 (Whole Chapter)
Revelation 21:6
He said to me: "It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To him who is thirsty I will give to drink without cost from the spring of the water of life.
Revelation 21:5-7 (in Context) Revelation 21 (Whole Chapter)
Revelation 22:13
I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.
Revelation 22:12-14 (in Context) Revelation 22 (Whole Chapter)

*****************************************
In Conclusion, because the Bible says a lot of times, that "God is Love"...we all try to find out (even us Christians) who and what God is, so the bible clarifies that for us by explaining that God is Love and therefore, we are to assume that based on this, everything starts and ends with Love.
Happy Christmas, God bless!

Alpha and Omega are the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet.

Therefore this refers to the beginning and the end of everything.

In the Greek Alphabet, Alpha is the first letter, Omega is the last.

The phrase "I am the Alpha and the Omega" very simply means that "I am the beginning and the end".

It comes from Revelation 1:18. Jesus is speaking. Alpha and Omega are the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet. It was be the same as saying "I am the A through Z" in English. Means that Jesus was the first, the last, and everything in between.

It's referring to a quote from Jesus where he uses the first letter of the Greek alphabet "Alpha" and the last letter "Omega" to describe his omnipotence in that He was here before the world began and that He will be here long after it's gone, ergo, he's the "First" and the "Last".

This is referring to the beginning and the end, as the others have said. It is also, according to some beliefs, referring to the Father and Mother aspects of God. Father Alpha is the creator, and Mother Omega is the creation.

The significance of this phrase lies in comparing God making this statement about himself (Rev 1:8) with Jesus then saying he is "the First and the Last" (just a few verses on. God is the First (Alpha) and the Last (Omega). Same difference! It proves that Jesus is God! (NOT a different God, or 'god' either - the same God who alone reads the hearts of men, who created everything by himself.) That's the real wonder of the title. It also crops up in Isaiah 48: 12,13 where Yahweh says, "I am the first and I am the lasst. My own hand laid the foundations of the earth and my right hand spread out the heavens." Compare that with Colossians 1:16 which talks about Jesus as the One who created all things. Powerful stuff!

Literally referring to the Greek alphabet - where Alpha is the first letter and Omega is the last letter. Metaphorically this means "I am the beginnng and the end."

Yes, it's from the Bible, and a number of Christian cloths (altar cloths, vicar's robes etc) use the capitals for Alpha and Omega overlapped (can't remember which time of year it's used). Its a statement of eternity - "I am the beginning and the end".
