Pedialite is best to help prevent dehydration. If your dog is sick watch for him to dehydrate you may have to go to the vet. If you get there before he is completely dehydrated you may not have to leave him there on fluids. They can do sub q fluids right there for you.

Pedialyte or gatorade are high in salt also its the salt that helps retain water. Thats why it is used to help rehydrate.
Have a home made recipe somewhere.... looking.
Sugar-Salt Oral Rehydration Solution
30 ml (2TBSP) sugar
1 ml (1/4 tsp) salt
1 L (4 cups) Boiled, cooled water
1 ml (1/4 tsp) Baking Soda
If you do not have baking soda you can use just salt and increase the amount to 2 ml (1/2 tsp)

Yes, plain water is much better. Suger is unhealthy. Has the dog been seen by a vet?

plain water not sugar water. sugar is not good to give to your dog. If the dog is vomitting you can give pedialyte. regular flavored gatorade is good also

Why would you put sugar in water?
I give my animals filtered water and bottled water. Bottled water has all the great nutrients that regular water lacks. Filtered water is good because it takes all the nasty stuff out...rust, chlorine, etc.

I'd feed it some Pedilyte that you give babies when they are sick and you don't want them to become dehydrated.
