We overcome the world by placing all of our trust in Jesus Christ. By believing in Him, whenever we are tempted to sin in thought or action, we bring our thoughts "captive" and see if they line up with the Word of God. If they don't, then we make a conscious decision to deny our own thoughts and believe what God says. That is how we overcome the world. And, by they way, it takes a lifetime. We all fail, but Jesus Christ overcame the world and we are in Him and He is in us. So it is only by faith in Him that we can overcome the world.
