Well, how do I know if what I saw was a spirit or something else? what do they look like?

Yout main question was what you saw was a aporot or something else. The answer isn't as clear as you may hope.
Spirits, or ghosts, can take on many forms, but the one most people report seeing is the human form. In which case, you can't really have a definite conclusion on it being a spirit. Spirits look like anybody else you may see, the only ways to tell if they are indeed spirits, take a look at thier face, watch how they walk, and see if when they talk whether the lips move. The look on most spirits faces, is that of an erthreal one, almost very content to be seen. Thier movement, however, is very erratic. There are no leg movements to make the foot take a step. Take in mind that I did not say they glide. If they appear in one place and decide to move to another, they simple show at the other and not at the place they were. These are most common things that people note when seeing the spirits. Communication is a different thing entirely. If you look at the lips, if/when they speak, you'll note that the mouth does not move at all, but you will hear a voice unlike your own either inside your head, or right inside your ears. The downside to this, you are the only one to hear it, and thus are considered crazy or schizophrenic when you tell others. I hope this has answered you satisfactorily.

Hi, I thought I would say something here. As a Mormon, I have never seen a spirit, but I have family members who have seen them. There are two kinds of spirits - good ones and bad ones. The good spirits are usually the spirits of family members who have died. They will usually appear to be younger than the age when they died, and usually adults because we were all adult spirits before being allowed to come to earth. If you see them, it is usually meant to be a sign of comfort to you. The room will feel "light" and full of love. It is usually a brief meeting, and they may have a brief message for you, as an unforgettable experience. If you see the other kind - those will usually also look like people, but they will have a darkness about them. If you have never seen them before, I have heard they will also look like a dark shadow in human form. I see by your other questions that you are preparing to be baptized in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. If you are starting to see spirits - either kind, I think you might need to ask for a Priesthood blessing from the missionaries or the Mormon bishop or someone active in the Church. I have a friend who had to go with one or two other men from the Church to say a Priesthood blessing in the house to cast out a bad spirit. If you are starting to feel like there is an "icky" or "depressed" feeling in the room or house, or near your house, or it seems "dark" in the room even when you turn on the lights, I would get ahold of someone immediately. It is not a rare occurrence for bad spirits to try to cause people who are about to get baptized to doubt everything they are doing, or to feel depressed and afraid. In fact it happened to my great-grandmother and great-grandfather when they were going to join the Church. I won't give any more details here. Please, please ask for Priesthood help from the missionaries you know or someone in the Church. If you are on your own, you have the right to pray and ask for protection from angels and Jesus Christ. Also, put up pictures of Jesus Christ in your house. You don't have to go overboard, but at least 1 will help. Remember, people think the world of you and want to help.

you can always compare what you saw to what we know - if anything was said or done it would have to agree with Biblical teaching if it did not then it was not from God - and if not from God it was from the devil - he would be trying to trick you
