Is there much of a difference between a -5.0, -5.5 glasses prescription? i.e. is it that noticeable?

I dont notice it at all except when i look at far distances, like a football field etc... But i go about throughout the day just fine. That was when i had glasses..

But its way better to get contacts.

Hi. This difference may not be noticeable at the moment, but in time it could do more damage. There are some compensation mechanisms which adjust the optical properties of the eye, but in time they may be decompensated. There are some muscles attached to the cristalinum (i think that's how it's called in english, and which is the natural lens of the eye) which stretch it and changes it's optical refraction properties, just to name one of the mechanisms. Usually, the glasses are good if you feel comfortable for some amount of time, as if you some time forget that you're wearing them. I reccommend you to address to an oftalmologist. And if he (or she) prescribes you -5.5, follow the advice, don't stick with -5.0!

yes, there is actually quite a big difference....if you are unsure ask the optition,...they can put -5 lenses in....and then swap for -5.5 you will see the difference....if you are unsure its worth doing as maybe you only need -5...not -5.5.

my eyes have recently got worse and I am a -4.75, I was a -4.25 before and I certainly noticed a big difference when the strength was put up.

There is a small difference. If that is what you have been prescribed then that is what you should wear.
