I was all excited to go deer hunting with some family (they were right good times), but they have never shot anything except my grandfather (RIP). So now what do we do with it? Obviously we are going to eat it, but where to start? Help on butchering a animal! This may sound stupid to some people, but are there people you can pay to do this for you (clean a carcass)? I am not finding anybody, but maybe by some miracle someone can at least direct through the steps of cleaning a carcass please.

Okay some clearification I thought I was in good hands people invited me. All male family memebers go hunting, but apparetly they don't kill anything makes no sense. I didn't find this out until after I had a lucky shot. Believe me I was not exactly impressed.

Hopefully you have gutted it..Let it hang a few days in the cold..If its get to warm then you need to butcher it ..Either take it to a deer processer,Or cut it yourself..Make sure you take off the back strap!! Cut in to roast,steak.. bone it out for the hamburger..Of course if you never done it before it might be worth while for you to take it to a deer processer..Next time it maybe worth while getting a little bit more educated on deer hunting..Its your first time, I would never discourage anyone from hunting! Good Luck in the future!
Congrats on your Deer!

I assume you gutted it. If not well... .. it is a real shame. Cook it and feed it to your dog.

Take the deer to a processor. Look in the phone book under meat processors and start dialing. I know in some areas you will have a tough time finding one.

Another thing you might do is call homeless shelters and see if they take carcasses.

By the way gutting a deer is not the hard process that people make it. You'll hear about some gland in the thighs that if you don't remove it the meat will taste like poo. This isn't true deer meat taste like poo anyway. Ha Ha Ha

Jeez people the guy made a small error in judgment. He is trying to rectify it. The first time I went frogging I came home with a bag full of live frogs. I don't want to tell you what happened next. My dad taught my mom how to ride a motorcycle when they were dating. He forgot to tell her how to use the brake and she forgot to ask. I don't want to tell you what happened next.
A Friend of mine said he would be sober driver ....

Have you gutted it yet? If not, how long has it been since you shot it? It is pretty simple to gut a deer, just a few minutes and you're done. Don't cut a gut. A Wyomming knife works well for that.

Then you can let it hang to chill if the weather is right. Easier to skin a cold deer than a warm deer. Then it is just cutting it up how you want it. You can cut out the loins then cut the rest of the meat off the bone and grind into hamburger if you want.

First off, this is the hunting section and not a debate about hunting. So everyone who opposes hunting needs to get out and quit with the negative comments.

Second, you should have known all of this stuff before you went hunting. Didn't you take hunter safety course? You should have immediately gutted the animal and then put it on ice until you can butcher it. If you don't want to butcher it you can take it to a butcher and tell them exactly how you want it done.

You still should have gutted it yourself though. I will not go into detail about how to do it but it's easy enough to find out how on the internet. You have to avoid heat, dirt, and water after the kill or else the meat will spoil.

first of all congrats on your first kill
check this site:
http://hunting.about.com/od/deerbiggame/ht/htfielddress.htm

its basic but will help you in the future, if you havent done anything with the deer yet you may be too late.
but you need to take it to a butcher after you dress it then they will package it and everthing for you.
imho if you dont have the stomach to dress it than you really dont need to be killing it.

and to be honest you should at least try a web search to fine one of the many real hunting forums before you get the anti's worked up.
good luck and I hope you keep hunting.

I would not attempt this yourself, The best people who often do this for a secondary income are the meat cutter people at your local supermarket who may be in the business as is the case where I live. Some here have set up shops for this purpose in their house or garages and have the required saws and other tools. However, it often means that you will have to dispose of the parts not used for they usually do not.

look in your phone book under butcher or meat related listings. if you lived here i have a bunch of friends that could do it for ya lol. good going and don't leave it for to long without draining the blood and cutting it up or it will go bad. if this is still open tonight i will ask my friend for details on how to do it yourself and put them on here. he will be over tonight so be patient if you can =).

WONDERFUL
AS WAS PREVIOUSLY STATED ONE SHOULD KNOW WHAT TO DO IN ADVANCE OF DOING IT.
SOUNDS LIKE IT RUNS IN THE FAMILY
IF YOU DID NOT FIELD DRESS (GUT) THE ANIMAL YOU HAVE JUST KILLED IT FOR NOTHING.
IT TAKES NO TIME AT ALL FOR INTERNAL ORGANS TO START TO DECAY WHICH WILL TAINT THE MEAT QUICK , FAST, AND IN A HURRY
IF YOU DID GUT IT (SOMEHOW I DOUBT IT) TAKE IT TO A LOCAL WILD MEAT PROCESSOR AND PAY TO HAVE IT DONE.
AS A HUNTER I CAN APPRECIATE THE DESIRE TO HUNT BUT THERE ARE CERTAIN RESPONSIBILITIES AND ETHICS INVOLVED IN HUNTING, ALL OF WHICH I AM AFRAID YOU HAVE THROWN TO THE DOGS, WHICH IS WHERE THAT DEAD DEER SHOULD GO.
AT LEAST TAKE IT BACK TO THE WOODS TO FEED THE COYOTES AND MOUNTAIN LIONS.
I WOULD NOT DISCOURAGE A PERSON FROM HUNTING BUT PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE GET AN EDUCATION BEFORE MINDLESSLY WASTING A NATURAL RESOURCE AS WELL AS A LIFE.

Please don't leave the poor deer's carcass on the side of the road in front of your mailbox. Three people in one tiny town where I go exercising did that, and it's disrespectful, it's waste, it's stinky and unsanitary. I had to leave the town without getting my full two hours of exercise coz their stinky deer carcasses bothered my lungs too much. Oh, and my kids couldn't play very well in the park having to smell that either.

I'll spare the lecture on how if you're gonna kill something, you should have already prepared to learn what you're gonna do with it. :)

Poor Grandpa! (RIP.)
