Totally agree, combine it with exercise and you're on a winner but too many people are weak and cave in!

It all depends on what foods you are eating. If it is a high fat/sugar diet then cutting down on your portions will obviously help you drop a couple of pounds but it still wont be healthy! A balanced healthy diet with lots of fruit, vegetables and water would be better, along with some gentle exercise a few times a week.

not necessarily i have struggled with weight for a long time and always fell at the hurdle of pure greediness. i started the weightwatchers points diet about 6 weeks ago and not only am i actually eating more than i did before i have lost 1 and a half stones. the more i stick to the diet the more i lose and its one of the easiest diets i ever tried because u can eat ANY food u want as long as you stick to your points.
i think the whole world should be on this diet.

Some people (like myself) have the opposite problem, where I don't eat, and I gain weight. The gym I used to go to told me that my body was in famine mode, so it held on to whatever it could get. It has nothing to do with portions, its what you eat, and how much exercise you get ;)

this is very true, i know some people have disorders or what ever but at the end of the day, healthy eating and excercise over a lifetime is better than fad diets which just dont work

It doesn't always work that way, your body needs so much a day to keep going, if you don't eat enough your body thinks its starving and panics, so stores fat, if you are still eating something then the body will never need to use that fat so it will stay where it is! Eating too little is just as bad as eating too much.

See you are wrong, it is not always how much you eat but what you eat that counts. Any diet not balanced is bound to fail. Someone who eats 2 Big Macs a day, and you tell them to eat one, will have little or no effect.

Most diets dont work , cos they are the lazy way to loose weight. Increased activity is the real key.

It truly bewilders me too.
There is a multi-billion dollar industry hanging on people's inability to grasp this extremely simple concept.
Energy IN - Energy OUT = Energy STORED
Or, to put it another way:
Eat Less, excercise more, lose fat.
I guess too many people have too much to lose by the world waking up to this simple fact.
Cheers.
