The Police will only get involved if someone was injured in the accident, or possible suspicion of drink driving, or something that could need investigating, like dangerous driving / no insurance etc.

For a minor road traffic accident such as that, it will just be between yourself and the other person you hit (and possibly the insurance company if the matter is progressed).

If the damage is very slight, you may be able to just settle the matter between the Two of you. Presuming one or the other admits liability?

This way you pay her yourself, an agreed figure, to have her car repaired/bumper resprayed for example. Saves making a claim through the Insurance company which would knock up your premiums and setting your no-claims bonus back to 0 yrs!

Best of luck.

If prosecuted means will the law do any more than fine you and take points off I think the answer is no. Could you be sued then the answer is yes. After all you hit her.

I have a disposable camera in both our cars, should I be on either side of this I can take pictures of what happened.

If you are insured , you should have no problems, there are times even though it is our fault from the insurances point of view that things happen beyond our control..
your insurance should pay for damage to her car, your insurance might go up .

yes, you are at fault, you could get a ticket for careless driving
the same thing happened to my daughter 2 months ago but was not charged, but her car was totalled. I guess the cops figured she suffered enough

Police won't do much more than give you a ticket for it and then you would get points on you license. It is called failure to control speed of vehicle also not paying attention to surroundings.
