About 2 1/2 months ago a terrible thought flashed into my mind. Now i cannot get rid of it. Everyday day in, day out i have to try and push this obsurd thought out of my head. Its driving me insane. I dont now how to stress how much of an affect this had had on me. I feel totally worthless and i desperately just want to live the life i could live without this. When i feel good i can try and ignore it. But whenever somthing goes wrong It comes back just as bad as before. This stupid cycle has been going on so long, I feel like i am going to lose it. It is making me so depressed, some days i just break down and weep. My family is supportive but i feel like they dont fully understand how bad it is. They dont want me to live on medication and i dont really either. What should i be doing. Please help me.

As scary as this situation is to you, rest assured that there is hope. A few years ago, I too experienced much the same thing. It started when I would see sharp objects(knives, pry bars etc) and think about hitting someone. Like you, I was terrified. I was already seeing a pdoc for anxiety and prescribed antidepressents and tranquillizers. I thought that I had OCD after reading some posts by others. The thoughts continued and progressed to the point that I was afraid to be alone with my youngest son at bath time for thinking about drowning him in the tub. Before too many out there write me off as a 'dangerous nut job', know that the key to releasing these thoughts as I discovered was to 'embrace them'. It is a paradox. It is called flooding in the psychiatric community. Force yourself to face the fear. Eventually, it will become less frightful and have less impact on you. It does take time, but is the key, I promise you. You are not deranged, dangerous or Obsessive in the clinical sense. If you had OCD, you would perform 'rituals' to releave yourself of your fears. I am assuming that you do not. If not, you are mearly neurotic like all of us to some degree, just very sensitive to the circumstances presently. Fear is the culprit here, don't let it consume you, take charge or your own mind. Best of luck! -Rob

first of all what flash did you have? by explaining what caused this an what it was related to can help people solve the problem by understanding what the flash ment and why you had it? what it possibly ment? if your not comfortable with telling us what it was that flashed, then its quite difficult to solve the problem.
i too suffer from stress very badly, you see i worry about success so much that i too can just cry and ruin my day, even though i know my problem i still cant solve it, but i find ways to try not to feel as bad, it sounds stupid but it works, when you start feeling that way listen to music and write down the lyrics of your favourite song, within a few mins you would have forgotten about it because your keeping your brain occupied fully, because you have to concentrate very hard to listen and write the lyrics down and trust me it would have left you.personally i listen to tupac shakur certain songs only that help me very much.or by far the best way to forget about it completely, is hanging with friends and talking trash, going to clubs dancing especially. i hope iv helped?

you havent mentioned your problem in detail..

But if it is a thought about some illness, dont worry and get yourself checked to be sure.
In case, after getting checked, you find out that you do have a problem, get cured. It'l b ok.. Do Ramdev's pranayam every mornring for an hour or 2. It can cure illnesses like magic! I have seen it myself..

And most importantly - don't loose heart.. its ok.. Life is like a rollercoater .. and face all problems with courage.. It'l b ok.

Take care.

Ok, medication isn't exactly a bad thing. Sometimes people just need the meds to get straightened out and get back on the right track. I hope that you are in counsleing, and that if your're not, that you get in counseling. I know all about depression, and stuff like that, and right now am on medication myself, so if you want to contact me privately for support or just to talk, feel free to do so. Good luck.

hi..
first of all, let me tell you, i can understand how you are feeling.
But trust me, If you know ur thots are terrible, you ONLY CAN help yourself better to get rid of it than any one else...

And if you are unable to handle it alone, try to speak your heart to some one you know the 'ur thot' is not related to, a close friend or a relative, who will hear u unbaised. I m sure just after u speak 'ur thots' loud it will make some difference to your life. If it seems like impossible, go and meet a professional, they will be able to help you.

But i would still maintain... No one else can help you the way you can help yourself. Coz changing ur thots, and feeling better would be ur necessity than any one else.

i seriously hope you get out of 'ur thots' soon :-)
Take care and stay happy :-)

Well, since you weren't really that specific, i don't know if this answer would really help you, but it's a good try...

Therapy, councelling, friends, now i know that these things might be useless and that thought would, might stay with you forever... but these things will get you through life and make it feel just a bit better.

What bothers you?
The moment terrible though invades you, start doing something like gardening, hiking, listening to music you like, write it down and leave it there, talk it out to yourself, to someone, especially to God. Then you will feel that you thank yourself you had that terrible thought.
