i don't know for sure, but i do know that i always feel fresh and cleansed after swimming in the ocean, & if it wasent for light our eyes wouldnt be able too show us all the buety on this earth.

Salt is a preservative - a christian preserves the life of others by preaching the good news to them
Light - we cant do anything without light in our lives. Light is there for us to see where we are and where we are going.

Salt is used as purification. Light is to guide you out of darkness to a new beginning. Jesus is personified as the light of the world.

let me answer on the salt side
since in ancient times, salt is one of the most important thing or possession...
remember the salt trade route in history..
and more importantly, the importance of the salt is not the thing but rather the core of the salt which is its saltness and not just the rock... a salt that has lost its rockness has lost its value..
and i can say that jesus, used salt in his parable

Because our level of thought could appreciate what He was saying to us. He had to use material things to explain spiritual realities, because we "seem" to be material here and now, even though He taught us differently.

We Muslims believe, that Jesus was one of the mightiest messengers of God that he was the Christ, that he was born miraculously without any male intervention (which many modern-day Christians do not believe today), that he gave life to the dead by God's permission and that he healed those born blind and the lepers by god's permission. In fact, no Muslim is a Muslim if he or she does not believe in Jesus!
