I'm arriving in JFK at 17:30. would it be ok to reserve another airline to go to Cali that departs at 20:25. Since it's not an international flight, I don't have to board too early do I? so my question is...i'm supposed to land in JFK at 17'30. If i have another flight the same day at 20;25, would I be ok?

3 hours is plenty of time to make that connecting flight. Even if you have to clear immigration and customs as well as re-check your bags, you will have more then enough time. You can even stop for a beer or two!

That should give you enough time, although you can never predict delays. The only problem with booking a ticket on a different airline is that if you flight is indeed late, the other airline doesn't take responsibility and you will have to pay take a later flight.

It's just one of those things where you have to take your chances........With three hours, I'd chance it.

As long as your JFK flight is not delayed, you have lots of time. I would book on the same airline if possible, so they will pity you and book you on a later flight if you happen to be delayed and miss the flight caused by their own airline.

Yes. Check with the Airline/s to see if thats OK. That should be fine.

And Cali (the only city of Cali I know of) is in Chile or Argintina. I dont know if theres one in the USA but im pretty sure that your 2nd flight is Intl. You should still be fine!!!!
