Depends, if a guy doesnt have much experience with girls, yeah, he might get shy.
If a guy smiles at you a lot, and you catch him looking at you, and when you do he turns away quickly. That a clue right there.
If you talk to him and he acts retarded, well not literally, but i mean he looses balance and doesnt really know what he is talking about....thats another clue...
If he seems to like to talk to you. thats pretty much it.

We'll I wouldn't say shy but they seem a little more quite than they are around there friends. They usually give you unnecessary attention, figure out ways to be in the same hang outs you are, compliment you, try to strike up conversation for no apparent reason.Things like that. But hey this is the coming of age if your not sure about a guy liking you and you like him then suggest you hangout together, something that involve only you two.If he turns you down then hey it's not the end of the world there are lots of fish in the sea. If you want to find out if he like you because you don't like him and you don't want to lead him on then drop hints that you like someone else even if you don't hopefully he'll get the message.

Sometimes they are depending on what kind of guy they are. Some guys will be all sweet and emotional and you can just tell by the way they're looking at you they like you or some guys will use freaky chat-up lines to try and impress you. If a guy is trying to impress you in any way, believe me he likes you alright!

All us guys are shy in the very begininng of a relationship, you need to look for subtle hints, the guy will stand nearer to you than other people, try and spend as much time with you as he can, without it seeming like he's into you. Men are just shy, we really should sort it out...lol
