I have heard people from other parts of the world (mainly Europe) call Americans sexually conservative many times. I'm not sure that we are so conservative on an individual basis, but as a country, I think there is a desire to uphold a conservative image. It may come from our founding as a God-based country. Our forefathers wanted to develop a morally strong country, and it is part of our inborn patriotism to try and hold on to these morals. Americans are a lot more free with their sexuality than we would like to admit, we just lie about it (thus the divorce rate).

In "sexually conservative" do you mean morally or inhibited. I'd rather not see prostitutes on the street corners and not see porno openly sold on the shelf in Wal-Mart. I don't think of wife swapping as morally conservative but of religiously and morally adept.
I want to believe the American family has adapted family ways and virtues throughout the ages that other Countries should look at and follow as morally and religiously conservative. If someone doesn't like the ways we live they may leave and find what they're looking for in one of the Countries that openly condone these behaviors.
