Calcium citrate does not interact with iron in any manner.
Besides using calcium citrate as a calcium source gives good results because of good absorption of the citrate ion.

Iron is absorbed well when given in the Ferrous ion form along with a counter ion like dextrate, citrate etc.
The calcium and iron absorption pathways are different.
Thats why they can be administered simultaneously.
