First and foremost try to locate Dr Brian Weiss. Last known place was Virginia. He is a world famous psychiatrist and he has done good jobs in cases like yourself.
Drugs alone will not help. Try to join a yoga centre and learn meditation. This will be a big help to you.
Meantime, get up from your bed at 0600 hrs everyday and go to a park nearby your place. Walk barefoot for 30 minutes. Sit on the grass with a spread facing east. The rising sun has a lot of beneficial effects. Do breathing exercise for 30 minutes.
In the bedroom clear all electronic equipments. When you lie down in the bed, your head should be on the east side. The other sides have magnetical disturbance for you. Your bed should not touch the walls. There should not be any mirror in the bed room. After the night meals which should be 2030 hrs, take a 30 minutes walk.
If you follow the above in 7 days time you will find marked improvement in your mental conditions. No doubt, you would look for Dr Brian Weiss.

To me it looks like that you have no good and intelligent Friends who is able to talk you into a better life and see all the possibilities you have. Face the life as it is and take good care of the possibilities you do have instead of believing in that pills can do it all. They can't it is you who decides what you will do with your life, no doctors or headshrinkers. You alone decide and the best of the possibilities and if they don't exist right now, create the possibilities. You will be a victim to the medicine companies who wants to earn money on an illness which doesn't exists at all, but could be a very serious if you consume their pills. You can have an illness that you never should have by eating them and the worst thing, you can't get rid of it later on when it is manifest.

First step
You need a good Doctor, A Doctor who understands your emotions, feeling concern and the family background
Second Step
Slow Lithium Carbonate works properly for Bipolar patients. But it must be taken only with the advise of an expert Psychiatrist.
Once you start with medication only adjust the dosage with the help of the doctor and don't stop it for ever.
You have to control your emotions and stress.
Exercises daily.
Control your diet.
Search for family history and help other too to get the moods controlled and never to be over ruled by emotions
Good Luck

Get medical advice, from another doctor. Doctors, loves to prescribes certain drugs. Anti depressant, is one of those drugs, the Pharmaceuticals Companies incentives doctors to prescribe, by sending them checks.
I don't think, you will have problems on getting this medications after your appointment.

It sounds to me like you need a new doctor! it is not fair for you to have to live with your families history and there mistakes.
You should see a councler, and then they could point you in the right direction if u think that u still need the drugs...
good luck!

I would say go to a different doctor. Meanwhile you have to include your family history stress to them that this is not the reason you are doing this... go to one that they don't use or is not in the same network.....

You need to see a professional psychologist to determine if you do indeed have bipolar disorder, or if your family's influence makes you think that you do.
