To give you a choice...simply put. If there were only good things to choose from, then where is YOUR free will to actually choose to do what is good, or really its rather - Where is YOUR free will to choose to love God if there were no other choice?

some people believe the story is only symbolic.
in the garden of eden adam and eve may not have been the only living souls either.
Adam was just the one of most noted.
however the tree of life has been equated with Jesus
and the forbidden fruit of knoweldge of the tree of life was asociated with lucifer or satan.
The debate between these two Persons of the morning star in the formation of creation was a plan a salvation for the growth all living beings. God chose Jesus over the other because jesus included freedom and choice to mortal beings. but the fact of having choice, dictated that the beings could also choose what God chose not to have. So both had to be included.

I too am born a Catholic and was sent to a convent where I saw the inside of becomming Gods (wife) at least that's how thought since when you go to the ceremony and you are given a ring like when you get married, you wear a certain color habit depending on the congregration you are in. I think the worst was the Franciscanas. young novist go into the convent never to be seen not ewven by thier parents, thay are behind a black screenand still with a black vail over their face to show purity. that is the one congration the most pure i can think of more that the moslem that show their eyes only but yet they wear robes like back in the day of Jesus Christ and before. Forbidden is to make it fresh and pure and only for hte one they love. we here in the US take alot for granted as I did when i visited Mexico. Customs, cultures are so much respected amounghts the upper class and the lower class but yet in differnt ways as I have experinced. from true experience thta I still am in ahh wonder how I am still here after not folloeing what the ten commentents ask of us but yet as I grow older and try to understand that the Catholic religion was created by the king of Spain and not all by God or by Jesus as Jesus was a Jew. then I have to also wonder why the hate is still ther . is it because one had a vision a don a grace and others were greedy of that and thats where greed started from. no I think even before then but not as severe. it's just again jeliously that one has nore power then an other. it all boils to the same thing greed, jeliously, stupity

My friend how else could the negative and the dark forces exist if there were no temptations. How could we ever exercise our right to freewill if there was never a choice to make.Everything in this world is somehow balanced through opposite forces such as black-white,light-dark-good-evil,without the Devil how would we know God.There is an evenflo to the gradure of the master-plan of creation and within it there is a place for temptation because really how else could the drama of life be as twisted, ironic, romantic, beautiful and interesting as it is.Think about it everyone has the same story to tell because the underline themes are all the same but what MAKES EVERY story different and unique is the choices that a person makes and how that choice affects them thus affecting the outcome to their struggles. One must choose between what's right and wrong for them-usually the wrong choice is the easier way out which becomes temptation because nothing good comes easy right.Merry Christmas to you and yours along with an Incredible New Year to come.peace.Riz>...Chio!

It is about free will. The whole obligation of man is to worship the true God. God had a right to test man's loyalty. The fruit of the forbidden tree of the Knowledge of Good and Bad was not one that wasn't available on other trees. The tree itself was special as it was God's. So not only did Adam and Eve disobey God by taking and eating of it's fruit but they also stole from God. But it is disobedience that plunged them into sin and death. Look how many times God asks concerning his laws, commandments, and judicial decisions that IF you would only LISTEN to my words then you would dwell a long time in the earth. God is not responsible for everything that happens, it's not all part of his plan. God does not look into the future just for the sake of doing so, even though God is all knowing he chooses not to know all, for instance, He only looks into the future concerning his own prophesies and the outworking of his purposes. Why then would he say to Abraham, For now I do know that you are a God fearing man, Genesis 22:12 or to Satan, Where do you come from? Job 1:7

In order to tell if someone believes or understands, you must test them. the forbidden tree and fruit was to test them. Eve was the first to fail the test, Adam followed soon after because he believed more in Eve than he did in his creator. According to the book of Paul, God knew it was going to happen that way.
Which brings us back to your question.
Why did god create forbidden things?
He knew man would be tempted and he knew man would fail.
I think, he hoped he was wrong.

The reason God created Adam or human is to send human to earth and to manage the earth and to worship God. Thus, Adam and Eve ate the fruit is on God's will. That will be the reason to Adam and Eves thrown out from heaven and live on earth and manage the earth.
Everything God made is on God's will and he created and made anything happen for reasons. God knows all the reasons...

Sovereignty. To show obedience to him.. Adam and Eve were not deprived they can do whatever they want except the forbidden fruit. Yet they chose Satan's lies over God's requirement as perfect human beings. I can't even imagine how perfection would feel. We'll know later when the old paradise is restored.

On a higher level, God has created nothing that would cause temptation or require man to sin. If this were so, God would self-destruct, as the wage of sin is death. Temptation came when thought drifted away from spiritual truth and believed a seeming material creation of the universe and man, which is a product of the mist that came over the world. Everything God creates is spiritual and eternal, not mortal and temporal, and He created only one reality.

The point of the story is that God gave man free will. Yes, God could have just "hidden" the tree or whatever, but at this point man had not sinned and was close to perfection. There was no need to "hide" anything.

How can one have forbidden fruit without having a forbidden tree?????????
God needed to give us a means to rebel against him to establish our free will. If we never had the opportunity to rebel, we'd just be machines walking around doing God's will. But God weighed sin against free will and decided that it was more important for us to have a free will, and consequently fall and need redemption, rather than have no free will.
