I'm just too slow. I think and read too slowly. I do read a lot, but my mental capacity has not improved much as far as I know. What can I do about this?

One excellent way to increase mental capacity is to solve math problems. Start with something easy and work your way up to the difficult ones later. It is great practice for deductive reasoning. Also, try crossword puzzles. Continually challenge your mind. I noticed that once I got out of college and settled into a working environment where my mind was not challenged on a regular basis caused my intelligence level to seemingly drop. I don't problem-solve as well as I used to, and I seem to miss the obvious things quite often. I've also had trouble speaking as of late...getting my expressions backward and things like that.

.First of all, you don't say why you are slow. Is it a mental or physical challenge. I'm slow, don't know why. I am able to read faster than my brain can comprehend. I'm also 68 that will slow you down too. What I do to improve my thinking skills is to play spider solitaire, solitaire, and Ultimate Mahjong's and Mahjong's Master 3. I don't play any of the games for points I play for speed. I also use this, Yahoo Answers, I use the search engine. To see how fast I can get the right answer.

I am able to keep my mind moving at a faster pace>>>>>>>and I top it all off with driving a 6 speed truck. Try that in heavy traffic. You keep your mind alert, and your reflexes moving quick! Good Luck finding your niche!

the only way to increase your mental's ablility is to read a lot of stuffs - even stuffs you dislike. What? How come you haven't improve? Maybe you're not concentrating enough. Always do your best and always feel interested in the subject you're reading.

Do a lot of calculus, it really helps.

Solve more puzzles. You also must use your brain a lot. Try some brain teasers. You might want to take out a math book and exercise your brain by doing a page a day or something.

yea i agree with others, you should do more things that require more stimulation. brain teasers (start easy and work up other wise you make get frustrated....).. you also need maybe some thing that involve reading comprehension..... if you want to build up some vocab grammar and such skills.... there are some great books that combine learning with a story.... usually in the SAT study guide section of the bookstore/library....
