I don't think God needs to masquerade to test us. HOWEVER, I do believe he gave Satan the job of testing us to weed out those who were not ready to ascend back into the kingdom of heaven. Satan is not capable of doing anything without God's permission. Satan's job is to waylay the soul (through temptation of our passions and desires) as long as possible until those with the strongest armor shun him and follow the path back to heaven.

If you mean, do I think that God would do evil things to people to test people, cause terrible pain and suffering and sorrow like the Devil is supposed to do... not really. I'm not even sure if I believe in God, and if I do, I know I don't think that God would be so interested in people's hearts. What does that matter to an omnipotent being, anyway?
But for God masquerading as the Devil... I think it's something you could find some proof for in the Bible. Like in the Book of Job, Satan and God basically do sort of have a shared agreement to test Job and see if he is a true believer... in that way, they are almost like collaboraters, or partners.

No. What an insult to God. Although He allows the devil to tempt us, he never masquerades as the Devil.

no way! it is written that in God there is no darkness.
however there are jewish traditions which declare that satan is not an evil being but rather something more like a lawyer who looks for and prosecutes people who can be tempted to do evil
than again, some people believe the holy ghost is satan too.
then again, satan is called a deceiver to trick us weaker creations of god. if satan had a spirit body with form and appearance would he not try to appear and declare himself to be a god or a most holy angel in light. ?
Yes.
so, it is more correct that satan would appear to be someone he is not. than it is for God to appear as something evil. by the way it is also written that God does not TEMPT people, implied is with sin and any kind of unrighteousness.

I love this question, when God and Satan battled and Satan was excluded from gods council, he was given the role of the deceitor.
There is a section of the lost texts that says that God was setting with his council a man walkedin and god said who are you and who do you represent,"he said I am Satan and I represent Earth". I hope that thi true that priests and popes have cursed him of the years just to put fear into our hearts. I hope there is no hell and fire and brimstone that god is a god of love and forgivnance. and that satan is only her to plae decption upon us and test us to see if we are worthy to cross over and if we dont then maybe when theologians talked about purpgatory is for those souls that are not worthy, and it may be the plae that Satan Represents...Earth

No way. Read the book of Job. God allowed the devil to tempt and torment Job.

No, but G-d does send out a deceiving spirit to the prophets in order to test the people (OT). Obviously, we are allowed to be tested, tried and refined.
for G-d alone is good... let no man say that G-d has lead him into temptation

No, The book of Job has a dialog between the two of them.
And Jesus and Satan also had a conversation, Jesus did not refer to Satan as God either.

Uhhhh, no!!!
You see, in this day, God doesn't have to prove nothing to us..... He works inside of us as we are in His image spiritually.... So, He knows the hearts of men..... He doesn't have to resort to pretending he's the devil.... just doesn't work like that!!!

how would you combine that with James 1:13?
"When under trial, let no one say: “I am being tried by God.” For with evil things God cannot be tried nor does he himself try anyone. "
