i use hydrocortizone cream 1%. wash your face as usual and then apply as needed to the dark spots. if you need a stronger brand go to the dermotoligist and they can write a perscription. the 1% usually clears up my dark spots on my cheeks in about a week. you notice then fade every day.

I've got a friend who used to do this, and who never reported any bad results. She would just get pure glycolic acid -- from a chemical supply company -- and would apply a little to the dark spot and let it burn for a few moments, then wash it off. Worked for her with no side effects.

But are these exactly dark spots (discolorations), or are these more like razorburn/ingrown hairs?

Pure Shea butter is very effective. It just takes persistence in usage.
