Of course not. It's a legend based on the the fact that cats seem to get themselves into all sorts of situations and get out of them. For example, falling from a high place and turning and landing in air so they land on the ground ok (cats can 'right' themselves typically). Things like that. I wish cats really had 9 lives though, a lot of evil people are always out to get them :(

sheesh, some of you are a bunch of sickos
and no, I think that a cat can only die once (like every other living thing), their curiosity leads them into some compromising situations that are dangerous and cats seem to come out ok
my aunt's cat just died at age 22 (of natural causes), so we joke that Tig got more than 9 lives

Well, in a manner of speaking, yes. Many cats have escaped death several times in their one life time and so the saying goes. Have a purrfect holiday.

My mother-in-laws cat Fluffy will be 26 in October. she must have 9 lives. Please don't try to figure this one out. Like UFOs and ghosts. we were just meant to wonder with no actual proof.

They certainly act like it, with their fondness for taking off outside in the middle of winter, hiding under cars, hanging off of Venetian blinds, jumping up to high places, eating lotion and drinking paint water. They also like 'baths' in the downstairs water basin.

well there was one cat that showed up at my house and was atacking my cats so i had a little fun and shot the cat with a .22 rifle. It didn't die so the next day shot it again and the next and the next. it took about 5 shots with the 22 and a hit in the head with a sledge before it died. so i don't really know for sure but i don't think they really do.

that's not true... they live their life just the way we do too..you eat, they eat,you sleep, they sleep, you defend yourself, they do too,you have sex, they do too,you die when your time comes, they die too when their time comes..the only thing they can't do is to vote. so i think they have just one life , just the way we do too.
