My mother has it, I have it and it's not severe but how do you curtail your behavior?

For some people SSRI's like Paxil, Prozac etc. help and for a lot of people Behavioral therapy and/ or Cognitive therapy work great. Often the combination of the three is the best. I have also heard of hypnotherapy helping some people.

Good luck!

You need to say to yourself what you are obsessing about. You need to be aware of it when you are doing it. When are are aware, you could say to yuorself to stop doing it, or ask yourself a series of questions, like, what am I doing? why am I doing it here? where was it before I started doing this behavior? who was I upset with? was I thinking of something bfore this behavior just happened? etc....

I'm glad you know you can only 'curtail' it, not cure it. Pause from all excess activity and find out what the repeated activity is saying.

I have a severe form. I have to take medication. Im not nuts like a lot of people think I must be. Try to identify your rituals, magic thinking habits ect. and then try to find ways to cope with them before anything happens in an uncontrolled environment. Then you at very least have some sort of plan.

Try picking up 'Brain Lock' by Jeffrey Schwartz from the bookstore or you can buy it off Amazon. It has helped me a lot with my OCD and it's a very interesting read. HTH : )

Combination of psychotherapy and medication usually helps. Medication will help control the part of your brain that causes the repetitive motions, and psychotherapy can help determine the underlying reasons for your obsession so you can get past them.

There is really no way. Substituting with another, less annoying ritual may help. A sudden upheaval of habits (travel) may help you get rid of certain rituals.
